Hi I am looking for some advice about the clutch and gear box on a Kubota B5100e which I purchased off eBay. The tractor is very original made in 1981and still has the original tyres on it! All the joints are tight there is no play in the steering. It starts easily with little smoke I cant image it has done a lot of work. But the gear box is a bit whiney in high gears and more so if you are going down a hill and the engine is breaking. I am not sure if this is normal? The gear box feels tight when you select the gears and I have changed the oil and put a new hydraulic filter in the back end. The thing is the clutch feels very sharp and it is hard to get the tractor to move smoothly, it can be done but takes a bit of getting used to. I have heard people before say that the clutches can be sharp on early b Series tractors? I am not sure if this is normal or if some thing is worn out? When the clutch is engaged or disengaged it does not make any nasty noises and the gears select ok. The other thing to note is when you let the clutch out the tractor wants to spin its wheels if you are on gravel or some thing loose. I am not sure if this is due to the tractors weight it is very light about 375kg? I have two other tractors a Ieski tu1700 and a Yanmar 1401, these are both grey imports and three cylinder but generally I find them much easier to drive. I no that the B5100e Is two cylinder model and has a much smaller engine I not sure if this makes any difference to the clutch operation. I have always regarded Kubota’s to be the best, but in the past have been out of my price range. I have before owned a Kubota L225 which was a great tractor but I sold it to by something newer and with lower hours and ended buying an Iseki. I am very pleased with my Kubota B5100e it is great fun and brings a smile to my face but I would appreciate any help or advice relating to the clutch and what is normal with this model. Thanks James

James,
Welcome to the OTT and congratulations on your purchase
I can't comment directly about the clutch issues since I have and HST. But like you mentioned I have read many other posts with your same issues about shifting.

For the back wheels spinning, do you have any impliments on the 3ph? Having some wheight on the back end can keep that form happening.
On my tractor if I remove the box scraper then my back wheels spin quite easely on gravle and dirt roads. Put the box scraper back on and it will not do that.

Hello James,

Every tractor that I have ever been around seem to have some strainge little noise that they make. I had a B 7100 that I used for 16 years. (4200 hrs.) Mine made more noise than a bull in a china shop. I was not aware of this when I owned my 7100 but on my L 3000 that I currently own I replaced the Super UDT with Amsoil Synthetic Tractor Trans/ Hyd fluid. It cut the noise level about half and the temp in some cases by 70 degrees. It's the only thing I ever found that will bring the noise level down.

Hi James welcome to the forum. That clutch may just need to be adjusted. If you don't have a work shop manual get one. They are worth there weight in gold.:D Dusty

I dont have any thing currently on the back. I mainly use it for pull a half ton trailer. The tactor did come with front weights but I have removed them hopeing that it would give the rear a bit more traction.
