Cleaning out the attic - trip down memory lane

When my folks moved to Florida my mom gave me my baby blanket, for what reason I don't know, and I still have it for the same reason... I don't know.
When my father-in-law died 10 years ago, we found the hospital bill for my wife's birth. He was a photographer, and there were droves of pictures of people that we didn't know. Also found his scrapbook that he started when he joined the Army Air Corp which was interesting.
Now if I can only remember where I hid the money that DB Cooper asked me to hold for him 50 years ago! I think that we buried it under the cellar floor in fried1765's home.

We have moved a lot. When we started finding boxes that had not been opened after a move or two we tossed them. Old papers in cardboard boxes were becoming more or less a fire load issue in a hot attic.
We have crystal and plates as hand me downs with stories related to the original owner, back to the old country. Jewelry and a mantel clock that have their own stories.
The kids and grand kids have been told to take what they want from the estate and sell off everything else. Some important items have already been passed down.

I was 2 when my parents moved here.
House is now 292 years old!
I am almost 82 now.
My ex-wife tried to take the property from me 25 years ago.
I live with a great woman now (22 years), but have no plans for a replacement wife!

That is a very old house! Bet we have very few in my 900 square mile county that date back to 1730.

This was my mother, there was not ANY money... to settle the estate, it cost me $12,K because the dumb a$$ lawyer put the house in our names instead of keeping it as the estate (Las Vegas).

Hired the wrong lawyer and the wrong estate sales person.

Tell her with Global Warming, NC is the new Florida!! I understand not wanting that much winter but Raleigh, NC gets very little in the way of winter (I wish it got a bit more).

But it's not cheap here (well I really don't know how expensive everywhere else is) They say it's affordable but I would not be able to move into my own house if I sold it to myself!?!?

Well, the wife really hates the cold weather. Most of our friends have moved to FL. I really want to go to NC. My wife says its too cold

FL it is. About 5 years ago we looked in the Jupiter Farms area. No HOA's, min 1-1/4ac lots and up to 5 or 6 acres on some. Unfortunately prices there have risen, a lot.

The older I get the more I consider moving south myself. Good luck.

That cellar is a small old circular bricked cellar with a dirt floor.
I'll start digging tomorrow!
BTW: All three pilot crew members on the D.B. Cooper flight (NW 305) were acquaintenances of mine.
Only the copilot is still alive.

Heard on NPR 2 days ago an interview of a person that has written a book about migration and believes that people should go back to where they come from. Of course, she was referring to only the people in the USA, not all the migrants flocking to our country.

Cleaned out FIL's house after his passing with help from his kids two years ago with all his and some of his fathers stuff! Old folks saved EVERYTHING. In his shop there was many many little containers and most were tagged with the contents. USED straightened out nails! BIL told me how Great Grandpaw made them pull old nails from used lumber and straighten them out! I opened a little cigar box, very old and inside was used coffee stirs like you get from the coffee shop! Too many other strange things to mention, but after the work shop was cleaned out I dismantled the old work bench. I yelled to the BIL outside loading the dumpster and said....I found the treasure!!! There were buckets of old pipe fittings saved from the original boiler ! The pails were set on the ground and the work bench built around it! LOL! The shed out back was full of.......WELL imagine remodeling the kitchen and saving everything including moldings and countertops! My wife was so amazed at her Dads collection she said I m not doing that to our kids, and we proceeded to clean out our attic full of junk my wife was saving since moving into our house 35 years ago!

Another box, more nostalgia
This is the 3rd page (where the code starts) of a morse code sending program I wrote in Z80 assembler. Even now as I think of it I smile. I really enjoyed doing this as a hobby. I'm pretty sure this was printed on a Model 33ASR Teletype.

yes, ASR33....fixed a LOT of them when I was younger......pretty sad when I can spot WHAT the printer was...

Z80 ,a GREAT micro ! Basis of many TRS80s I still have( and they still work !!)
