Directly from Kubota Corp:
"Thank you for your email to Kubota. The GR2120-2-54 & GR2120B-2-54 replaces the GR2120-54 & GR2120B54 models, with adding a muffler shield. The GR20 Series has been upgraded to include rod steering, a hydraulic PTO clutch, and improved transmission, providing greater durability.

Cranky, I've gotta apologize for not giving you a more useful answer in that other thread. I've seen so many discussions of the light-duty transmissions in lawn tractors, I thought that was what you were asking about.
Looking at the Kubota online parts listings for the GR2120 and the GR2120-2 shows the HST units appear to be virtually identical, so without going through the list part-by-part, it looks to me that any differences must be pretty minor. Maybe a Kubota tech would know specifically what the "improvements" were.
