Check transmission fluid level thru window

Is there any trick to check fluid level on the transmission fluid? The window is clear and i don’t know if it is way under or way above. Is there a way to tell? I opened up the drain plug a bit, and the fluid is clear.

Have someone drive it up a grade while your behind observing the window. If you have a loader, raising it will bring the level down, as well as raising the 3Pt hitch. More than likely it's low, so you'll have to bring the front end of the machine up to a point where you can spot the level in the sight glass.

John Deere Hydraulic Oil Dye - MT3668 google it, it's sold many places... I used 1/2 a bottle but could have used even less... it turns the oil Red.

Much easier to see...

I run with an extra gallon or so in my tank, so if I don't see red, I add extra.

if i add dye, how long till the dye is mixed well enough to view thru the glass?
