I have a B7100 and it is not charging. My first question is: How does this unit charge? I dont see an alt.. I thought I overheard someone say something about a magneto. I'm not familiar with this. And, I recall someone saying they are expensive. Which leads me to my second question: Can I install an alt. from a car that has an internal regulator?
Now, on to more help. I also have a PTO driven FEL & Backhoe attachments. The rear PTO coupler is very unstable. The plate has been re-welded numerous times and it only connects to the top 3 pt. hitch pin and, slides on to the PTO. Is anyone familiar with this set up? Am I missing additional supports?

If you look at the round bit under the cooling fan you will see two wires coming out of it on the same side as the starter motor, thats where the charging is taking place. The wire then go to a regulator box under the dash panel .
My B7100 stopped charging just after I bought it so I made some checks by connecting a multimeter on volts between those two wires and got a volts reading of I cant remember what, but around 14 volts so that was ok.I picked up those wires at the cotrol box and got nothing but wiggled them around and got a reading. It turned out the one wire had corroded through at the connector so spliced in a new wire and now is all ok.I just hope your problem is as easily solved.

First is your battery OK and charged up? Check the plug in connectors near the steering box for corrosion this will cause all kinds of problems. Clean and put a little CONDUCTIVE GREASE on them not to be confused with dialectric grease. Check the wires coming out of the Dynamo which is basically a rotating magnet. Also the ignition switch connections.

Measure the voltage across the battery it should read about 12volts or a tad more. Start the tractor make sure the key is on to the right fuel gauge working. Bring the engine up to about 1700 rpm now take a reading across your battery it should read 13.5 to about 14 or more volts. If not you may still have a connection problem or a bad regulator which converts the dynamo AC to DC voltage

Good Luck
