Changed Fuel Filter and it won't even turn over

I have a 2011 V-2203 Diesel Kubota engine on a 20KW generator that powers a food trailer. FYI - I'm not a mechanic but I can follow directions. I changed the fuel filter and bled the line using the bleeder nut behind the filter (Not the injectors). But, when we try to crank it, the electric fuel pump will kick in, but it doesn't even attempt to turn over. Both batteries on the outfit were tested and are 100%. Starter is not getting triggered. Not really a lot of usage on the generator.

The indicator light on the starter button flashes four times after failing to turn over indicating No AC Signal (From yellow front panel on the powertech panel)

Are there any safety switches that would be preventing the starter from engaging, or can air in the lines prevent the starter from even trying to turn over??

Trying to decide if removing the starter and having it tested is the best next step or if air in the lines would prevent it from trying to start, I could attempt to bleed the lines at injectors.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Have a DC voltmeter? Have to test power and grounds first. The corrosion under the starter might be an issue. Check battery voltage at large cable on starter and power on smaller lead (white connector) on the starter when attempting to start.

hmm, 13 year old unit...when were BOTH primary battery cables replaced ?
Seems you have two batteries, so replace all FOUR cables.

You really need to get the wiring diagram for the unit. Check with the manufacturer or Google.

try hitting it with a hammer once and see if that helps. Sounds crazy I know but worth the limited effort required.

No, air in the lines will not keep it from cranking.
A safety switch / Interlock switch will stop it from cranking.
Check that the AC out puts are disabled as some will not crank and run with the load engaged.

I don’t think that would have enough “intelligence” to know if there is air in the lines.

When you say the starter is not getting triggered that means that something is stopping the start button from triggering the starter (obviously). I would assume that is some safety switch on the unit. That could be a disconnected wire or a damaged switch. Look around the areas you worked on and see if you can see anything suspicious. Try to figure out from the manual what safety devices it may have (Low oil level, safety cover not in position, etc).

The starter picture has the starter in a vertical position but I assume that was just your camera that did that. Do you know how to jump the starter and bypass the wiring? If so that would tell you if the starter would spin the engine. If you don’t feel comfortable doing that then remove it and have it tested at an auto parts store or starter repair shop. If removing the starter is easy that would be a good step. If it is difficult to remove then try to clean all battery cable ends and check wiring connections.

I think it is in the safety or wiring circuits.

Any chance there's a low oil switch on the engine and you're just low on oil?

Edit- found a couple versions of manuals. Check the cranking fuse if you have one.

Thanks. I had found the manual also. I've looked for a cranking fuse but so far we cannot locate one. Trying to find a qualified mechanic that knows what they are doing to come work on it as I can't move the trailer right now.

How did you test the batteries? Just using a volt meter is not a good test. You can show good voltage and not have enough amps to crank the engine. You need to test for amperage. Also, that picture of the starter has what looks like a lightly corroded cable. Check and clean all cables.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I subscribe to Just Answer.com and I submitted my issue and was linked to a certified field tech for heavy construction equipment. Really sharp and kept having me test through all the options. He determined that the ECU is faulty. So, I’ll order a new one and swap it out and hopefully that will rectify the issue.

Just an update. With some help and process of elimination, were about 90% sure its a faulty ECU panel. Ordered a new one and hopeful that will fix what's going on.
