Hello first post here.
I got a question about changing coolant in the BX-23. 2006
I followed the manual , drain coolant out bottom of radiator. Manual says it take 3.7 quarts.
No way that much came out ,I did spill some, got a oil drip pan under there ran down the frame, should known it was but anyway.
I jack up the front end got a little more out. Still not that much.
I noticed water pump looks to be higher up in the block so looks like block holds
Some fluid.
I flushed it with water and refilled it coolant mixed 50 percent and water
Still doesn’t take 3.7 quarts.
Is there a drain plug in the block the manuals does not mention?

Yes, right below the injection pump.

as eserv said there is a block drain on the left side of the block below the injector pump.

I just did this a few weeks ago. 2 QT came out of the radiator & overflow tank, and about 1 quart out of the block, 3 qt total.

Im not sure I would drain the block if i had to do this again. There really isnt any way to know for sure you have bleed all the air from the block since there is no bleeder at the thermostat. It is difficult to "force" the thermostat to open so you risk running the water pump without any water plus all the other scary things about having no water in the block until it decides to open.

on the left is everything that came out of the tractor, almost exactly 3 qts. on the right is what was left from the fresh gallon of pre-mix before it pulled the last bit from the overflow tank.

Not sure why owners manual does not tell you that ?

With the water flush recommend in manual . That leaves water in block or deluted . Which means the coolant is not at maximum protection. I***8217;ve must test it now , since I***8217;m sure it not.

In cold Ohio weather that could freeze and ruin the engine , I got to test it

It's an Owners Manual, not a Service Manual. If they put everything in it, then it would be a..............Owners / Service manual.:D

There is an outlet up by the thermostat that is supposed to be opened while filling the cooling system . When you see coolant coming out you've bled the air so just close it back up. I also filled up the overflow after doing the previous step.
