Chains on Turfs?

Hi, I just picked up a B7300 with a FEL and this summer plan on using it for a bunch of tasks around the new property. I'll either be tilling, or plowing and disc-ing, doing finish grade work, using a subsoiler for sprinkler trenching, and digging postholes....

Tractor came with Turfs, and they're in good condition, so I'd hate to have to replace them. If I find that the turfs don't have enough traction for some of these tasks, can I run chains on them in the dirt? If so, what kind of chains work well, and where can I find them?

Thanks

I don't see chains working real well in dirt. I would think they would more or less bunch up and walk off the tire. I see it hard to keep the chains evenly spaced in dirt as well. I have proper ballested Ag's on my tractor and will spins are a common thing and I dont see a wheel spin going well with chains on. You best bet is go with a set of Ag's or R4 Industrail tires.

There are lots of folks who run chains on turfs on riding mowers all year long- I would imagine it is for traction. Chains do work better on turfs than they do on lugged tires. I don't have experience with them, although I have run chains on an automobile, and don't like the rough ride. If they are built right, they should stay in place on the tire fine. I take it that your tractor is 2WD? I have turfs on my B7100, and with filled tires and 4WD, I do fine. If it were 2WD, I think that I would be disappointed, and looking for more traction.

Thanks, I've been impressed so far, and the turfs have done OK in the little bit of mud I have, but I'm just afraid that once I'm dragging a plow or subsoiler i won't have the needed traction...

Chains on your turfs should work just fine. The more aggressive the chain the better they will bite. Try tirechains.com for pricing.

Have chains over the ag bars on my snowblower tractor. In the summer it does mounted tiller duty. I usually just leave them on, no problems.

That's a tough cal, you're stuck. Skidders run ring chains, I bet they cost a fortune though. Tires and wheels are spendy too.
