The more you use the cast iron skillet/etc., the better they work. We make cornbread in our skillet all the time. You don't want to submerge them in the sink with Dawn, or soaps, which removes the surface you built up in the "curing" process.
I have taken old rusty skillets that people wanted to trash and cured them back to looking like a new skillet. Lightly wire brush them, wipe them down good, apply vegetable oil, heat, cool, wipe down, repeat.

Ya know there are several schools of thought on the soap in iron wear. My Grand Mother, you would NEVER EVER UNDER PENALTY OF DEATH or at least an arse whoppin put any kind of soap near her iron. Mom on the other hand washed her Iron in the sink all the time. When I started messing around with camp fire cooking and at deer camp using iron, I asked her about it,,, She told me as long as you dont let it soak for a long time, dunk wash rinse and set it on the stove to dry then oil, every thing would be OK. I tried it and had nothing but,,wanting to throw the iron through the wall!
Then she told me if it is not seasoned very well the finish will come off and thats what happens. SO things are seasoned I wash them in the sink with dawn, cause thats what the boss buys and I am not going against what she wants, then rinse put on the stove and get them really warm, ans wipe them down, and its all good.
I have found out you DO NOT leave tomatoes in the iron no matter how well it is seasoned!!! YUCHHHHH:eek:
Most folks will just use hot water and a brush to clean them up afterwards and thats cool if it works for you. Like the man said lots of ways to skin a cat :D
