Was doing some brainstorming. I got a coupon for one of the harbor freight haul master roof racks. Ive been wanting a canopy on my L3700SU and was thinking about mounting one of these on instead. I couldn't find where anyone had tried this. I figured I could just lay something down inside it for shade and have a place for lightweight gear. Thoughts?

If you proceed with that idea, you may want to consider that any weight that you put in it will raise your center of gravity. Also, anything that you put into it must be securely tied down. So, the idea seems sound enough if you do not traverse on any inclines.

I would like to suggest something else though that may serve you better. A cargo rack attached to a 2" receiver on your 3pt might be put to better and more frequent use. I use one on my 3pt for carrying heavy loads and sometimes to transport tools to a job site. I also use it as a platform for my sprayer. I also use the cargo carrier on the FEL frame with a quick attach 2" receiver when the bucket is not quite the appropriate thing to use for a particular task.

If the Haul Master Roof Rack is cheap enough it can be used with a sheet of 1/4" plywood as a canopy, I suppose. However, you may be able to locate a used golf cart top for a canopy, as I and others on this site have done. I paid $20 each for 2 used golf cart tops from a golf cart dealership in Tacoma, WA. I am sure that if you search around you can find one near you for a reasonable price and fabricate a frame for it and use that as a canopy. I suppose that you could also carry a light load on the golf cart top too if you wanted to still work on that idea.

Thanks for the advice. I hadn't thought about the extra weight but I hadn't planned on carrying very much above. I was thinking more about utility and performing more than one function. Also plenty of places to easily mount work lights. This set up is mostly for light work around my property. I had event thought about using a piece of dark tinted lexan for shade. I have also considered the golf cart canopy. I guess the idea about a cargo rack didnt hit me until I got the coupon in my email today. Just an idea.

The HF Cargo carrier's shipping weight is 34 lbs. I don't think you'll notice much difference in balance unless you load it it's max capacity of 150 lbs.

I cobbed an old car hood for mine without any issues. Got rid of it when I got the soft cab which has a hard top, still no issues with being top heavy.

P.S. If you do it you'll want to support the front. I used some old adjustable rods off a satellite dish I had laying around and connected them to the ROPS. Worked really well for a couple of seasons

I bolted an atv rack to my rops. It's just the right width. I don't usually carry much up there, but I don't notice the weight. My rear tires are loaded and I always have a rear implement and loader on.
