Cannot remove grease gun from fittings

I have a LA463 loader and am having a somewhat minor, but frustrating, recurring problem. When I try to lubricate the bucket pin, for example, I cannot remove the grease gun from the Zerk fitting. The fitting is recessed at the end of the pin, and there is insufficient space to angle the gun's nozzle for its removal. How do I remove the gun? Is there a special nozzle that I should be using? Thanks in advance for your help.

Have you tried loosening the tip?

Some really like the LocknLube though I've never tried one.

I use to have a dedicated pair of vise grips hooked to mine all the time for the same exact reason, easy on and easy off !!! You can loosen the tip like TripleR said - ifn your gun has that type of tip.

I hated greasing the zerks because of what you are describing.....then I went and bought what TripleR referred to, a Lock-N-Lube - kinda pricey ---but shoot it is perfect solution!! Bought two - one for home and one for school!!! IT works better than you can imagine!

some grease gun tips are super tight esp if there is left over pressure, usually have to twist it sideways to get it off but if its on the top of the loader arms where you're through a hole, get a screwdriver. Sometimes you can loosen the end of the tip a half turn to ease the grip

Not because of this post - coincidence - saw some of you guys thought they worked well. Greased mower deck tonight, lead me to get one.

For the OP, if these guys like them, I'm betting it's a good tool!

Yep lock and lube. We have the same loader. It's a good way to get greasy bloody knuckles. I put my locking pliers and screwdrivers alongside just in case. The straight in ones are easier than the bent corners are.

Lock and lube is a good product.

All's it takes is a push on the handle, and slight tug, and it's off of even the tightest fitting. Another thing you can try with a standard end, is to move the joint that the gun is stuck on. For example, lift the loader, as you pull on the grease hose...

I was about to buy a Dewalt 20v grease gun and then discovered the Lock N Lube. Makes it so easy to grease with a regular grease gun I will skip the electric one. Cost $30 for the Lock N Lube but saved me a lot more then that in the end.

But do you leave the gun hanging on the fitting and step over to the control to move the arms? (I'd want someone who lives with me to help -- either move the control or pull off the grease gun, but the two bitches that I live with won't raise a paw to help.)

Just ordered mine yesterday after reading this thread. I regularly get my grease gun head stuck on my L3400 loader, and occasionally on my flail mower grease fittings (FYI my dealer says the most common replacement part they sell for flail mowers is not the knives, it is the bearings since people forget to grease them). Bad grease gun head design. Same problem with another grease gun I use on my JD 450C dozer. Hopefully the LockNLube will fix this, and I can keep the Vice Grips in the toolbox along with all those extra grease fittings -- thanks!

I've never had a grease gun I truly liked.....kinda like a caulking gun I never liked. Anyhow, who makes a good solid one that doesn't leak, etc? Lincoln's seem to get good reviews. Gonna get a LockNLube as well.

Lincoln's were the go-to gun, The last batch (6) 2 of the 6 were junk, (first time I ever got a Lincoln that was bad) So I bit the bullet so to speak, and got the elect Milwaukee, It was high dollar but very tough and dependable. I'm assuming the Lincoln's are getting like everything else built Cheap. The old ones would last years.
So to answer your question, "Lincoln"..... Save your sales receipt..

I use a blue point pneumatic continuos duty. If you have a zirk that won't take grease, it won't go continuous. But then you just keep squeezing and releasing the trigger and it will force the grease through blue point was around $120

my wife bought me the lincoln about 2 years ago for my bday - pneumatic version - damn it is nice.....$$$$ but nice - still had the problem of pushing on and off....
went ahead and bought the Lock-n-lube.......best money spent!!!
Hell - it is almost fun to grease all those damn fittings!!!!!!
