Hi pals -- I have a new BX23s with 130 hours on it... the red line that connects to the hoe is leaking hydraulic fluid. (a little weepy). I am not a n00b to mechanics - but a n00b to tractor hydraulics... please see picture... it is leaking at the yellow circle... how to I go about fixing the leak? Thank you.

Just my 2 cents is that's (male) pipe thread coming from the hose and (female) pipe thread on that quick connect fitting. Just tighten the fitting some and I bet it will stop leaking.

I'm with bigfoot724

two wrenches, proper sizes, make the wrenches stay in close proximity, 1/8 turn or perhaps more.

yes, easy PROPER wrenches !!!! NOT adjustables, NOT imperial, use the correct Metric open end wrenches..
hmm, I'm assuming they are metric..... will take digicals out and measure. The BX23S is a 'hybrid'. engine/drive train IS metric( Made in Japan) ,Assembled in USA ,so some might actually be Imperial.
You could use vicegrips IF they're adjusted properly. The big deal is to NOT 'chew' or 'round off' the hex heads of the fittings.

If you're lacking the properly sized open end wrenches, I'd use crescent wrenches (ie, adjustable wrenches). I would never use vice grips on those fittings unless it were an emergency. Vice grips are about the fastest way to chew up fittings, nuts, bolts, etc.

If it still leaks after you tighten it then it may require pipe sealant on the threads. Remove fitting use a little teflon pipe sealant and re install.

Since the OP is new to this, I will point out it should be pipe sealant and NOT teflon tape!

For the OP, the reason is that a piece of teflon tape getting into the hydraulic system can cause damage to pumps. At least that is what has been said here and elsewhere...I have no reason to doubt this possibility myself.

Thank you for your reply.. i will try that... yes.. it appears to be the male end that is connected to the black hose, going into the larger female nut. I will try to tighten the male. Thank you again for your support

yes. thank you. I'm not new to mechanics, just tractors and tractor hydraulic fittings. Yes I know.. no teflon tape on hydraulic lines, just like on a car's breaking system or clutch hydraulic system... I will use sealant only.. Which I must ask you - what is the proper sealant that you recommend? I'm assuming it's not the same pipe dope used in plumbing/gas pipes..lol

Thank you again!

I 'think' they're 22mm and 19mm. Kinda hard to get digicals, light AND hands in there !!
19mm = 3/4" almost exactly (only 2 thousandths of an inch big)

22mm ~= 7/8" (only 9 thousandths of an inch big)

Glad this was pointed out about not using teflon tape. Learned long time ago where to use and not use the tape product.
