Can I put a smaller bucket on L4701?

Hi,

First post here and joining the community as I'll be purchasing a used 2019 L4701 with LA765 loader. The bucket that comes stock with it is 72" wide which is awesome for most of my needs but I will, at times, need to put mulch in a trailer where I need to back load it and the width is only a little over five feet. This loader has the quick attach feature and I am wondering if I buy a 60" or even smaller bucket, with quick attach, will it work? I am not sure if the spacing on the quick attach FEL's are all universal or, since the L4701 is a bigger frame, if the spacing on the FEL is wider and won't accept smaller buckets. Thanks in advance!

SSQA is SSQA, so everything fits

a 'cheat' for making a wide bucket(6') narrow(5') , is to make a 1' wide wooden 'plug' that sits in the wide bucket. It's now 'magically' a 5' bucket.

I've seen both version. one plug, mount on left side as well as 2 1/2 width plugs which keep material centered in the bucket.

I like Jay's idea - fabricate a "plug" that closes off a portion of the bucket.

A piece of plywood with a nylon strap around it would hold it if made right.

Cheaper and easier to change out..

Another possible solution would be to make "removable wings" for the trailer so that the excess mulch get "redirected' into the trailer.

This way the bucket sides will "cut" into the mulch pile like normal, and not "push" it along.

I buy beets from a guy whose bucket is wider than my truck box is long; so I have to hold a "deflector plate" over the tailgate to 'redirect' the beets from the overhanging part of the bucket .

Pretty good deal....1,000 lbs of beets for 30 bucks.

Same concept I suppose.

Yes you can get a narrower bucket, I do believe 48" is as narrow as you can go with SSQA.
Be mindful that some buckets are specifically designed for skid steers and the height of the buckets are much lower than a tractor style bucket.

I got to ask. What kind of hooch are you making with those beets?

Any tips on how to keep the plug in place? If I strap it I feel like the straps would get damaged when scooping material etc.
