I just spent about a half hour trying to remove the rear fuel filter without any success. It's tucked up under some kind of plate/guard and I can't get a pair of pliers up there to remove the spring clamp. Any ideas on how to remove the fuel filter?

What a horrible design. If I would've know about this poor design and not having a water separator, I never would've bought this tractor.

Really... Think you might be being a bit of a dramatic! :cautious:

That's a 10 year old tractor and your just now having issues???
Pull the Plate/ Guard off if your having that much of an issue.

Take that guard off - and doing that was a PITA last time I had to do it - I think the person that hit those nuts/bolts must have used 100 ft/lbs !!!! Four bolts and nuts as I remember.

Goodness,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
With the deck removed, loosen the two upper bolts and remove the lower bolts. The plate will swing down, leaving the filter out in the wide open.

When reinstalling the cover, you do not need to tighten the bolts to 35 ft lbs; just snugging them works well.

I looked and it didn't seem like that guard can be removed on my BX2670.

I did finally get the fuel filter off, but it took about an hour or so. I was very difficult to get a pair of pliers up above the guard to squeeze the spring clamp. I'm going to use a double barb splice fitting to extend the fuel line several inches out and then install the new filter to get me going right away as I need the tractor to blow snow this week. I'm going to do a filter mod by using one of the Racor fuel/water separator filters. Having to deal with a freezing fuel filters in the winter is a huge pain in the ass.

Run your hose all the way to the front THEN back to the pump.
Changing filters in the future is now very easy.

Reminded me that I’ve still got a filter relocation kit on the shelf in the garage.

Now being retired, maybe I’ll put it on in the spring.

Little chilly out there right now…..

I've been watching youtube video's on the BX Fuel Filter modification. The only difficult part of the mod is building the mounting plate. I like your mounting plate design.

I just dealt with a blockage in my fuel tank (bx2370) , time for an access panel on top of the tank.

Buy a 'Mason jar cold press coffee filter' for about $20 and install. Take 4-5 seconds to drop into the fuel filler spout. It took me 15-18 months to finally get an economical one from TEMU as I wasn't going to pay the obscene Amazon prices for the SAME unit.

I had my BX22 for about 16 or 17 years with never a problem with the fuel tank getting trash into it, and I only changed the factory-installed filter once and that was only after it clogged after about 14 or 15 years. Oil and oil filters are important to change on a scheduled basis, but the worst that can happen with a fuel filter is that it will clog and the engine will stop running. I did add the coffee filter to my BX23S because it was inexpensive and easy.

My tank gets filled in a garage and the fuel is run through a screened funnel.
The tractor was used when I purchased it so it either happened then or it has developed a fungus from the fuel.
What ever it was I blew it back into the tank with compressed air, the line was completely plugged.
I have had this tractor for five or six years and I know nothing has got in the tank as long as I've had it.
An access through the top I think is the best solution to fish anything out that ends up causing problems.
Since blowing the stoppage clear I have put 10 gallons of fuel through it without incident.

@BX'r...
All you've done is blown the crud into another chamber of the tank, so don't be surprised when it gets all blocked up again. When that happens remove tank, properly clean it out and reinstall. It's not a bad job, though a 2nd pair of hands to help remove seat assembly and fender pan would be nice.
