BX2670 or B2650

I am sure that this question has been asked before on these forums, but searching through 8 pages of threads, I was not able to find a current thread. I have 8 acres that I am building a house on. This ground is composed of 5 acres of open field, with a 1/2 acre pond, 3 acres of woods, and a creek on one side and the front of the property. I am torn between the BX2670 or the B2650 to do the mowing, snow removal, general loader work like moving mulch, and adding stone to the driveway. I was thinking about purchasing a rototiller to do a garden, and a sickle type mower to mow around the pond and the ditch banks. What do you guys think would be the proper decision for me. With the cost associated with building a new house, budget will be a bit of a factor.

I would lean to the B -

tell us what the cost per unit is looking to be ?

- The B is slightly bigger, little more lift and more 3 point, it too has a higher center gravity - larger tires......higher ground clearance too

what is the cost difference?

Me neither, I would find an older BX, B or even an L and save some serious $$.
You, well if you want new, I would go BX if you just going to putter work. ;)

The only thing that I am not sure you could do with a BX is use a sickle bar mower? You should ask before you decide, and also consider how long and how hilly would your driveway be? If you are just building be sure to include a barn for the Kubota and implements. Figure the door height and add some in case you go to a bigger tractor later. :D and way more room than you think you'll need for implements.

Yes you can
http://www.everythingattachments.com/5-Foot-Sickle-Bar-Mower-p/uni-fsbm-5.htm

As with other "made for subcompact" items it seems the price is high, though I've never priced out sickle mowers.

Knowing the price you have quoted would help, but as an owner of a BX i do not regret my purchase, though having more tractor than needed is never a bad thing.
The BX can doe most of what the B can, only a little slower or in smaller chunks.

If I had it to do over again, I would have gotten the B or L, but I have been loving my BX.

I love our BXs, but I have larger tractors when needed, if I could have only one, it would be the B2650 and if cost hurts too much, a B2601.

Ya. Exactly what TripleR said. I looked at the B2601 and B2650 when I was buying. With the B2650 having position control for the3 pt and better lifting capacities, and right about a grand difference I went with the B2650 and never looked back. After over 450 hrs I couldnt be happier. It has been an awesome machine. Very nimble machine to get around mowing, snow plowing, or what ever.

I only have a little over 2 acres and have a B2650. I started with a 16hp Cub Cadet, wore it out, and moved up to a B7100. The 7100 was a real workhorse, but I then decided I wanted an FEL. B7100 was traded up to a 1998 B2400 that did pretty much everything I needed, but there were times I wished for a little more FEL capacity and 3 point capacity. At 1760 hours, I traded up to the 2650. I haven't put many hours on it yet, but the 60" mmm does a beautiful job, and it feels like much more than 2hp more in a few situations where I have put a load on it. As a bonus, the suspension seat and larger diameter turf tires really make for a significantly better ride. I have some back issues and it was getting difficult to move after a couple hours on the B2400.

Wow that was fast. I have not got a quote yet going to the dealer soon. I appreciate all of the advice. On another note what implements other than the mower and FEL are essential? Should I get the turf tires loaded? I will have a stone driveway for a couple of years, and I have to plant a lot of grass. I believe that the local dealer does have implements that I can rent, so that would be a very big bonus. Just have to get a truck to haul them.

Yeah - what TripleR and rkidd said. But need to qualify it some.

I have a BX, and started to look at a new B last year.

I can do some serious "putter" work with a BX, but sometimes find it lacking. I'm sticking with my BX, since now that I know what I can and can't do with it. I can't justify a LARGE expenditure for an upgrade for what really isn't a huge amount of capability/performance for what I will use it for. That could be different for different people, uses, needs, etc.

I would try a BX first. If first impressions aren't good (too small), trust that first impression, and there's options as all these guys have pointed out. I rarely hear guys say they bought too big...too small, on the other hand, happens all the time.

Good Luck!

If you go with the B2650, I would recommend a 6 or 7ft rear blade for snow removal and light duty driveway maintenance. A box blade is handy for driveway maintenance and moving/leveling quantities of dirt and rock. I also have an old harrow section that I adapted for my 3pt. I use it to "fluff" up my gravel driveway and break up dirt for grass seeding. A 5ft rotary mower would be a good addition too for the rougher areas that need to be maintained...

Love my 60"mmm and I would suggest from what you are saying a box blade for all of your yard work and driveway maintenance. I didnt load my turf tires because I do my mowing around the house with my tractor to keep the weight down for the wet springs. That depends on your area. I use a dedicated ballast box when I need weight for things such as loader work. You need 600-700 lbs of weight without loaded tires to do max loader work.

Ok, so no filled tires because I will be doing the mowing with this. 600 to 700 lbs of ballast weight can't cost too much especially if I use the Box blade as a counter weight. I guess I have to get to the dealer to find out specific pricing. Even though I don't have footers for the house yet.

There is a pretty big jump between the the BX and the B2650. I'd really look at the B2601, not just because I have one haha! They really are a nice middle ground machine from the BX to the larger frame Bxx50 series and small L's, especially when you dont have a ton of land to maintain and plan to mow. I have about 2 acres I will be maintaining with mine.

I have a B3350 CAB big brother to the B2650, the tractor is amazing, I use it for everything, I cut my yard with it (5ft rear finishing mower) then hook up my 5 ft bushog and cut my pasture, no dust no sweat, I wanted the smallest tractor Kubota made with CAB AIR, found a good deal on a used B3350 no regrets.
