Picked up a bx2660 for a good price. Overall in pretty good shape but hasn't been maintained the best. Doing a full service on it with new blades and fluids. After I put new blades in I did a little mowing in a field to test them out and temp needle was about 1/4" from the red after 7 or 8 minutes mowing in 79 degrees weather. Found the bottom part of the radiator clogged up behind the battery so that's taken care of but I also noticed metal particles floating around in the radiator so thinking it's probably time for a water pump. Kubota wants over $200 for one but plenty of aftermarket for $75ish. Is aftermarket a good option? Thanks

My opinion - for the price you paid, which is good one - I would spend the extra $125 and smile on.

Aftermarket on the outside is a wee bit different than aftermarket on the inside IF you know what I mean.

I agree. A bad water pump has the potential to trash your engine. This is like brakes - it's not a place to skimp.

And while $125 is $125, what is that spread over the life of the engine?

And what is that compared to the price of rebuilding an engine?

Before condemning the water pump,,I'd drain and refill the cooling system and see what happens.
If the pump was failing to the point where it was putting metal into the coolant,it would be leaking big time.
Good Luck!
