New here, so hi guys and gals! I bought a used BX25D tractor, and it did not have the belly mower attached. Seller said he rarely used it, only really used the hoe and loader. Tested it pretty good before buying, but apparently not enough. Tried engaging the PTO lever yesterday, just for the heck of it. Lever barely moves, maybe a half inch before it feels like I’m gonna bend some linkage somewhere.

Splined mid PTO shaft turns freely. I’ve got both rear wheels off, I can see the linkage on left side, behind where the tire would be, and it appears to go through to the right, but nothing to see moving on right. Any ideas? I’m hoping it’s linkage stuck somewhere from not being used in a while, but can’t find any pivot points beyond what’s immediately obvious near the lever. Thanks for any help!

If it's engagement of PTO:
Common issue pull this bolt and keeper and gently pop the valve out of the case clean lube and return.

If it's selection of PTO output:

Use a wrench on (green) arm, wiggle it back and forth to free up internal detent (yellow)

Just thought I’d pass this along… your explanation and diagram pointed me in the right direction and got me started. I cleaned the area, used compressed air, then loosened the hex head 2 turns. Then sprayed PB Blaster liberally in the immediate area. Let it soak, then tapped with a hammer in every direction while applying pressure to the lever. Took about an hour but it worked. Moves freely! Thanks for the help!

I think you should keep spraying it with PB Blaster for a few days.

There is probably rust between the stationary tractor case and the rotating pin into the tractor (if I am looking at the correct figure). The PB Blaster will break that rust down, then you can possibly get some lubricant (spray grease?) to get into that area. If you don’t get it lubricated it will probably rust together again fairly quickly.

Glad that you got it working!

It’s had a couple days of Blaster soaking in, I‘ll plan on spraying some white lithium grease into it tomorrow. Thanks again everyone, nice place you got here.
