BX25D on a 12 foot single axle trailer?

I am going to be getting my FIL's BX25D (series 70 I believe). Last year he had purchased a 12 foot, tilt deck, single axle (7k) trailer to haul it. However, with his deteriorating health, he has not had the opportunity to even load the tractor onto it.

I realize the trailer has more than enough rated capacity to haul the tractor, but my concern is the length. Is the tractor going to fit with the loader and BH attached? Can I swing the BH to one side and secure it to the trailer frame to reduce OAL?

My BX2360 with FEL and 5' rear blade (on a quick hitch) has maybe a total of a 2 feet left on my 16' trailer. I'm sure you can swing the BH to the side to a certain degree but my guess is it's gonna be pretty tight fit at the very least.

YES it will fit.......
not a great idea however

reason I know it will fit - mine (25D) was DELIVERED on a 12' single axle....and when the guy backed it off, the 1/2 trucks rear axle came off the ground....

scared the sheeeeiiiittt out of me!

You may want to reference this thread before you try to move a tractor with the Backhoe. Going to be hard to balance the load on that size trailer.
This is a good read, especially since I will be towing with a Jeep Grand Cherokee. :(

The good thing is the only towing I will need to do in the near future is getting it from his house to mine. About 30 miles, all secondary and back roads. I was really hoping it would be better suited for the BX25 as it would serve excellent double duty for towing quads. Looks like I will be trading it in on something a little longer, and with tandem axles.

Appreciate the feedback so far. If there's more, let me hear it. :)

Don't allow yourself to get comfortable thinking that a short tow is safer. Here in the upstate our back roads are narrow & it doen't take much to drop a tire off the edge. People will tell you more accidents occur close to home. I know I have been a little OCD about trailer towing, but when you have had a few bottom puckering experiences you tend to go overboard. I now have a 16ft tandem trailer, LED lights, brakes, & a break away to activate the trailer brakes, feel more comfortable towing my BX24 anywhere, "ins included".

Good idea. You won't have to find out the hard way that trailers such as these are simply inadequate for this type of load.

Along the lines of just because you can...I have been puzzling as to how I could haul my Ingersoll lawn tractor in my horse trailer (dual axles fully enclosed, designed for 2 big horses, 3/4 ton truck so capacity should be fine) to save paying for a dealer to pick it up. Only problem is there is zip zero nothing inside that trailer to tie it down. Not drilling any holes in that rig either, a lot of aluminum parts. Maybe some straps out the hinges...anyway not to thread creep, it is another example of the hazards of trying to use something for a purpose it wasn't designed for.

If you are just getting it home why not just take 2 trips. Load the FEL and BH on the trailer then come back for the tractor itself?

This may sound a little crazy, but would it be possible to build a frame out of lumber to sit on the floor. The lawn tractor could go in & be tied down to this frame & not modify the trailer. Could be wide enough to span the width & length to keep the frame in place, & when finished pulled out & stored some where?

I was wondering about something like that or along the lines of what D2 did to his stock trailer. Thanks!

FWIW. In theory it sounds OK, maybe someone else will chime in. If you were to place two long 2/4's long ways up the side on the trailer, then two more across the width, then center or park the lawn tractor on a pad or cross brace the weight should hold it in place. The only way the frame could move is up & it would take a good size pothole for that to happen. Can't move sideways or fore & aft, the walls & gate of the trailer would stop that. Something to think about & should be cheap enough to offset the cost of dealer pickup.

sheepfarmer,, using a horse trailer or stock trailer is not a bad thing they are built for heavy loads and designed to accept shall we say some unruly critters.
I helped an old friend move from Pa back to just outside of asheville NC and we use his stock trailer, never had a problem it was a tad heavy but once we got out of the hill country his old diesel ran just find, and yess the brakes were working too,,lol

Sheepfarmer: From the sounds of your stock trailer & diesel TV, I don't see any problems with loading the lawn tractor. After carrying horses your diesel will think it's on vacation.
