So I am working on a bx25 for someone, said he was driving and noticed the hst getting weak, then suddenly just stopped working all together. Will not go forward/reverse. Upon draining the hydraulic fluid the was some small metal shavings that came out as well as a few very small ball bearings and a piece of the bearing. The ball bearings were about half the size of a skittle (candy). Looking for input on if someone possibly knows where they might of came from and if anybody has experienced something like this. I plan on splitting the rear end open to investigate but would like just alittle more information on it.

Since the tractor isn't yours, and you don't appear to have any experience with the hydrostatic drive on this tractor, you might be going down a rabbit hole that is going to cost you a lot of money and have an unhappy friend or customer. I would explain what you found when draining the hydro fluid and let him decide if he wants you to attempt to fix it or leave it for the experienced mechanic at the Kubota dealership.
When I had my shop I turned away work because I didn't have the experience to do the job. I knew that some of these jobs were turned down by more experienced people because of past experiences with the type of repair needed and the time it took to do it correctly.

I do have some experience with hst I’ve split mine open on my bx2200 before and repaired it. But haven’t worked on a bx25. Unfortunately he’s contacted all the local dealers and all of them refuse to work on it. They just want to sell him a complete new rear end. We have a good used rear end to swap under it if that’s what it comes down to. But would rather try to repair the one that’s in it first.

I think expecting the rear end to be the issue is being very optimistic.
My money is on a failure in the HST.

There isn't anymore to say then the parts diagrams or the WSM should point to all the possibilities of what could go wrong.
