Sounds foolish but the BX’s use a plastic fan to cool the HST. It’s mounted on the propeller shaft between the engine and HST with the propeller shaft passing through its center.

Generally located right under the operator’s seat, above the hydraulic fluid filter.

While a cheap part can be a bear to replace in many BX models.

With engine out, now is a great time to make sure the fan is intact and replace if needed.

Dropped the engine off at a local diesel shop yesterday; they have an in-house machine shop that will measure all the bores for me and can hone/bore/sleeve as needed.

Since I pulled the engine and tore it all down, they offered to check it out for no cost and then give me a quote for any cylinder work needed as well as a warrantied rebuild. Should hear back from them early next week.

Until then, I'm just doing odds and ends like plugging some slow leaks in the tires and cleaning everything up.

Anything else I should turn my attention to in the down time?
Drain and replace the hydraulic fluid and filters.
If you don't have the WSM or the OPS manual get them to do all the service on it.
You could do fuel filters too.

Been working off this WSM which covers the D902-E4B. Not a perfect match, but pretty darn close.

Same goes for the OPS Manual, it's for a BX23S. Still a D902 but the loader and backhoe are newer.

Thanks!

Quote came back at $3400 for a warrantied rebuild. It’ll take about 3 weeks to get it back.

Until then, I’ll go over the rest of the machine per the WSM and OPS

Running into an issue with the lower coolant line from the radiator to the water pump. I checked all the before pics I took and I can’t figure out the proper routing. Seems way too tight to the belt and a pretty hard kink.

Looks like it's tight to the gear case probably behind the belt.

Spot on, as always Wolfman. Once I got it routed correctly I found rather significant wear on the hose. I’ll grab a new one, but want to make sure that doesnt wear the same way as the old one. Not sure if the issue was belt tension, hose routing, or a combination of both

Got it running today! A little smokey for the first few minutes and then it cleared up. I was told to go easy on it for about 10 hours and then change oil and filters.

Only issue is my hours lcd is blacked out. From a bit of googling it seems to be common on these and I’m probably looking at a new panel.

checked the fuses and wiring and it all looks fine.

Any other troubleshooting i should do? Or just bite the bullet and order a new panel.

Good to hear your progress is going well.
