BX2380 mower deck drive shaft.problem.

While attaching my mower deck I slid the 2 parts of the PTO shaft apart and can't get the male splines.to slide into the female part. Is there a trick to it? I have no problem when this happens on my old Ford mower.

I'm feeling really stupid right now please be kind!..

ok - it is a one way ticket

Look at the two CV joint ends - they have to be INLINE with each end - so with this, you have a 50/50 chance of getting it together.

IF you look very closely - you will see one of the grooves is a bit different that the rest - as the other male piece is also a bit different.

Notice the alignment of this shaft

I noticed the female part has one wide groove in it and thought it might be an alignment issue. You're picture explains it. I'll give it a try.

Yeah the female part has a wide groove in one side while the male part has a welded bead between two of the splines. That welded bead needs to slide into the groove on the female part. I keep meaning to put some marking paint on the outside of the shafts when assembled to make alignment easier.

That happened to me once. Like Speed25 mentioned, once you finally figure out that it only fits one way, use a marker or file on both pieces once it is together, so it will help you properly line up the splines.
