Soon to be new owner here.

I searched for anything "recent" (1-2 yrs) pertaining to the Mulch Kit for these Mower Decks, and how well they perform. I found a few videos about the kits, and honestly, was not impressed with the gauge of material used in the design.

I read the MC cost $550. (or thereabouts) I also read (watched videos as well) about making a Chute Baffle and installing Gator Blades, to get the same (or better) effect.

I'm wanting to Mulch my grass full time. Sometimes the underside of my deck goes a week or two (month) before cleaning. Given the gauge of material used FOR the Mulch kit, I'm skeptical it will last many seasons.

Those of you who Mulch exclusively, please share your comments and concerns.

I've had the mulch kit on mine since I bought it 5 (6?) years ago. Does a great job with the Gator Blades. I don't mow wet grass and often times I end up cutting over small sticks, etc. My 2 acres is hardly a golf course. I've never had to clean the underside of my deck. Just had it off the other day for a full maintenance go round---new blades, gear box oil change, etc. etc. I can't compare how it might do with just the chute blocker because I've never had that to compare it to.

For what it’s worth, I use G6 (?) Gator blades without the mulching kit. I even keep the rock guard lifted with a bungee cord most of the time.

My yard is very far from golf course quality also.

They do chop the clippings up better/finer than OEM blades in my opinion.

Do a quicker job on leaf chopping in the fall also.

The grass on my property, I have no clue what it is. When it's green it's nice, and when it's dry it's almost like hay. The Washington Coast region is WET 7 months out of the year, decently dry for around 30 days with high humidity, then all the grass goes brown until near mid September. Rinse/Repeat. I might cut actual grass 6x/yr.

I'll definitely be trying suggested blades, and the Gator G6's.

Thanks
