BX2370 Hard to start

Hey guys, I have a 2370 with about 120 hrs on it. Seems recently it has been real hard to start. I let the glow plugs heat up for 10 seconds or so and then try to start it. It beats and bangs and vibrates me to death. After about 10-15 more seconds, it finally catches and starts right up.

I've read about the throttle causing this sometimes. I always leave the throttle set at the same point. 3000 rpms. When i shut her down, the throttle stays there.

Anything I should be looking into to try and narrow this down?

First thing I'd do is get in the habit of using the throttle. When you're ready to shut down the engine reduce engine RPM down to an idle and let the engine cool down for a minute. When you start the engine leave the throttle above idle but not higher than middle (between low and high).

If you're using any type of mower engage the mower at about 1/2 throttle, then after everything is turning increase throttle as you move out. When you're into the grass, raise to full throttle (or a tad under).

Obtain an owner's manual and read it!!

Right after I posted this, I started googling the problem again. And low and behold I came across the fix.

I searched this on my phone all day yesterday as I wasn't in front of a computer. Its amazing how much easier it is to search from an actual computer. Here are videos of the actual problem and what the guy did to fix it.

Turned out the fuel shut off solenoid was sticking. Just had to manually activate it about 20-30 times and free up whatever dirt was causing it to stick.

Here is the actual problem...

When starting my 2370 .....
I always glow for about 5-10 in warm weather....and more in cold.

I never adjust the throttle ....until it is running.
So it starts at 1500 rpms 'ish and sits there a minute or two and then goes.
When I shut down, I reduce the rpms back to that "idle" - let it sit a bit and cut off.

I try not to start at high rpm's and try not to shut off at high rpms.

The second video is excellent to see what you problem was. Something to remember when there is a "no" start situation.

Not sure why you want to start anything with the throttle set high. I've always started on idle and shut down on idle.
Just think high idle on start mean's that the motor has no oil pressure,it builds up over time and pushes oil to vital parts. So for a little while on start up things aren't as well lubricated ,just from residual oil.So to my way of thinking my motor will last longer then one thats started on high speed.

B2650 manual says to start at half throttle which is about 1250 rpms. Good to know about the shut off solenoid, now I have to see if mine has one, lol.
