FWIW, I think my 2018 BX23S is very similar to your BX2350, engine ?? If so... I always turn glowplugs for 4-5 steamboats.... any/all time of the year, unless the engine is up to temperature. It's always startd and I can tell the difference when I don't preheat, even today when it's 27*C.

My guess would be that by messing with the injector pump and not really knowing what you’re doing, you may have messed up the timing of when the injector pump actually sprays fuel into the cylinders.

I’m no expert by any means, but I’ve read a lot here, and most of the advice is when it comes down to dealing with an injector pump, it pays to send it to somebody that actually knows what they’re doing.

Also, you need to be sure that you put any shims back that were between the pump and the engine block when you put it back on.

Just something to think about…

From the videos I watched, they did make that same statement. However, they said that about the ‘top end’ (the outputs). I took heed and didn’t touch that. I also meticulously removed the bottom end one-by-one and kept all the parts ‘matched’. Even made sure that the plungers were put back in the same orientation as they came out (which DOES matter). Also never even removed shims from the block so non-factor. Not quite an ‘I didn’t know what I was doing’ scenario, but still a possibility (although unlikely).

I do appreciate the thought, though! I welcome all input!

We're in business now, folks!

The glow plugs should be ok. They get 12'ish V when engaged and all three of them Ohm out under 1.5.

I "reversed" the injector lines so that I could cardboard test the spray pattern. The first time, none of the three shot anything. Not even a drip. I tossed them in the Seafoam bath and a quick ultrasonic bath. Hooked them back up and eventually all 3 started spraying a clean misty pattern. No drips, no unevenness. I still went ahead and ordered a new set, though. I don't have a high degree of confidence in these "originals" now.

Swapped everything back to how it should be, bled the air, and started cranking. After a few seconds, she fired up nice and strong! Runs fairly smoothly, steady idle, sounds good.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions and input! I'm sure I'll be back with some more posts as I continue to familiarize myself with the tractor and diesel engines.

I too agree.

And I must say your nuggets are larger than mine! I doubt I would have done any disassembly of the injector pump myself.

I have two r520s’ that refuse to fire after our two week shutdown over Xmas. I just get a helper and crack each injector line until fuel flows, then hit the glow plugs for two cycles and boom! Iirc the glow plugs with rail disconnected should show 1 ohm resistance. Anything above that causes issues in cold weather. I did cross reference them at lordco canada and found the glow plugs cheaper by $30 each hope this helps!

I had a BX2350 for a few years. It was a good machine. That model is the one with plastic panels, on mine every single panel was broken. It had been driven by the apprentice at the local council mowing operation I think.

Most BXs are similar, the design hasn't changed much over the years. They're a solid machine.

Sounds to me like the pieces of rust ran through your whole fuel system blocking various things. Disassembling everything and cleaning was what you needed. I see that a fair bit on here - people with what seems like a fuelling issue, and checking a few things then wishing it wasn't a fuelling issue. But once they bite the bullet and clean every single bit of the fuel system, it comes good.

I'm sure you'll be very happy with the machine now it's going. What are you going to use it for?

Thanks RCW and Henro! I can definitely be a glutton for punishment. :D One of my many hobbies is restoring/fixing old machines; boats, powersports, lawn equipment, pre-EFI/computer vehicles, etc. Prefer two-strokes, but also do four-strokes (and maybe now diesels). I can definitely hold my own with a wrench and have a lot of equipment to do the jobs. I guess you could say I have the mechanical mindset and quickly understand how things operate. I've been burned many times by not re-assembling things correctly so I'm strict on documenting and ensuring assembly is reverse of disassembly.

Exactly what I'm seeing PaulL. Plastics are all busted up, HST fan is broken (future fix, along with the "armor" that I see is recommended). Other various things that need maintenance/fixing due to age/usage. I have a friend with an older B series and he said don't underestimate these little machines, so I'm optimistic it will do what I need. We just have 10 acres and it'll mainly be a brush cutter and driveway maintainer. Maybe some garden tilling. Basically, just light-duty work. Anything big, I'll borrow the neighbor's big Kubota L

@fmjnax - - - hindsight is 20/20 - - So glad I made the off-handed comment about rebuilding IP's....I was just reaching at that point.

Not a credit to me, but credit to you for running with the idea.

From what I understand, there's a lot of issues with
"tinkering" with an IP. As you said you were meticulous in its disassembly and reassembly.

Glad I could help. Happy for you.

I have a 1953 Minneapolis Moline with carburetor and governor issues....that's gasoline after all..... ;)
