I had this very thing happen to my BX22. The issue I found was under the seat and no clue how it happened.

Under the seat are two wires, one with a female and the other with a male connector, that are for a rear light. Some how they made contact with one another and it caused the exact thing you are describing.

No clue if those wires are under the seat of a BX2200. If not, start chasing with wiring looking for shorts.

Also, make sure the fuel pump under the is functioning.
I have the same issue, connected those two loose wires under the seat of my BX2200 thinking it would help resolve issue I had getting power to the new turn signals I installed it didn’t work and instead caused this start and run issue, where engine stops when key is released.
How did you resolve your problem?

Also, do you know what those two loose wires under seat are for?? lol

The two wires under the seat are PROBABLY the safety switch to register if someone is in the seat (operator present) or there are some wires going to the rear lights or optional lights at the rear (usually disconnected and marked with blue tape).

What did you connect the wires to? Post a photo please

I removed the solenoid valve and attempted to start it. While holding the solenoid and engaging the key, the engine started and continued to run with key released. I noticed the piston on the solenoid did retract when it started and popped back out after key was released. I think this is normal, but not sure.had to reinstall the solenoid to get the engine to stop as it did not shut off (with solenoid pulled) when turning key to off position.
The action you describe is NOT correct for the BX2200. You either have a bad solenoid, or you are not getting voltage supplied to the HOLD COIL of the solenoid.

Normal operation is the hold coil receives voltage as soon as the key is turned on. The start coil is energized to pull the solenoid armature in when the key is turned to the start position, and the hold coil holds the armature in the in (run) position until the key is turned to the off position,

You need to look at the electrical diagram and see where the voltage to the hold coil comes from. It may be possible that you blew a fuse when you connected those wires...check your fuses first, after taking the wires back apart and putting them in the state you found them.

The only caveat is that reportedly some of the last BX2200's produced share the wiring of the next model that came out, and it was (may be) different than the BX2200/BX22, from what was reported in the past (somewhere, here or TBN).
