Hi All,

First post here. My BX2200 was running fine yesterday, but when we tried to start her today it appeared the battery was dead. Jumped it, and it turns over & runs as long as you hold the key all the way,but as soon as you let go it shuts off.

Called around and most people thought it was the ignition starter so we trecked out and got on, but have the same result. Turns over but dies as soon as the key is released from the start position.

Crappy luck with 3 feet coming our way. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Sounds like a blown fuse or fusible link. Reason im thinkin this is the start circuit does something like an override on the fuel cutoff. Unless there is a bad relay. Without a wiring diagram i cant be of much help. Good luck, 3 feet in your area im imagining as wet heavy snow. Up here we have little snow to speak of, last year was incredibly cold and snowed every other day.

Could be a failing fuel solenoid or solenoid relay.

I wanted to report back in case anyone runs into the issue.

Oddly enough I pulled the fuses & all looked fine. Plugged back in. unplugged the stop solenoid, and re-plugged it. BAM its turning over just fine now & staying running. Not quite sure what was going on, but shes running fine now. That was a close call!

Thanks for the replys fellas!

Was a dirty dirty little connection. This hAppens from time to time. Saw one that wouldnt shut down because a fuse was corroded.

Was given a can of a product called "Corrosion X" Used it on truck to trailer electrical plugs and then onto the smaller ones. Good product. Designed just for those dirty dirty little connectors.

Your series of tractors could have one of two different stop solenoids and to provide advice we need to know which one you have.

Does the solenoid wire have only one terminal or two.

On the solenoid with one terminal its job is to stop the engine after you turn the KEY to OFF. Using a timer relay, power is applied to the solenoid for a few seconds to allow time for the engine to stop.

A solenoid with two terminals has two internal coils. One coil, the stronger one, to pull the injection pump linkage into a position to deliver fuel and allow the engine to start. The second coil, the weaker one, is called the HOLD coil and its job is to hold the injection pump linkage in the fuel delivery position once the pull in coil has done its job.

If you have two terminal solenoid, check for a blown fuse. The fuse is powering the HOLD coil. If the engine fires with the key in the start position then the pull in coil is being powered.
