Well, I have a near by Auction with this 4X4 coming to close. Everything works and runs as it should but it won't move in high range. Anyone have a clue as to what it can be? The hour meter is not working. Are the trans filters normally the culprit in this issue or is there a more common big bucks repair in order. I dont know if its been stored outside. Can the trans oil get contaminated with water from sitting out side? I'd love to bid on this tractor.......but?

Could be as simple as the linkage not being right or it could be as bad as broken gears, no way to know without A LOT more info.
No transfilter has nothing to do to the hour meter not working or to it not shifting into high range.
Not very common for the hydraulic fluid getting contaminated from just being in the rain.

There is a cam for a neutral switch connected to the shifter linkage. The cam periodically gets packed with debris, restricting the linkage's travel.
It is on the transaxle's RH side inside the RR tire/wheel assembly.

If the linkage moves full travel, the failure is internal.

Please explain wont move in high gear. Does it act like its in neutral when in high gear and no noise or anything or does whine or strain the engine as if it wants to do something but nothing happens?

Thanks for the replies. I tested the tractor at the inspection day and it started and ran fine in low range but at the time I didnt realize the auction description said "low range works but high range does not". So at the time on the tractor, I didnt think to try the high range shifter. I did notice the rear PTO caseing had what looked like oil dirt grime that was haphazardly wiped off as if it had an old oil leak all over the back face of the case in the past. Maybe a bad hose leak over it at some point? I have a B2150 and the HST is bullet proof on that machine. Looks like a hopeful gamble that its the linkage. I wish the Hr meter worked to know how much time is on it but thats part of this gamble.

OK, I got the tractor home. Runs and mows just fine in low range but the high range is in fact toast. The shifter goes in fine but the drive gear is grinding as if its striped with a slight jump forward when it hits a higher tooth. I didnt leave it in gear for but a few seconds. The first question is will running it in low range hurt the rest of the trans? Whats the option of repairing High range as opposed to new trans or good used? Right now I have exactly $1105 OTD in the tractor and would like to keep it but cost may be better to part it out if repairing it runs it way above its value. Any ideas?

If it has a loader then you have a lot of wiggle room in value for repairs. If not then hard to say until you figure the problem out. Best case scenario you just have a lot of labor assuming you can do the work. If you have to take it to a shop then honestly your better off selling it as is.

Having said all that the first thing you need to consider is the broken pieces and/or metal shavings that are in the transmission somewhere and floating around in the transmission and hydraulic system. So yes running it in low can and probably will cause more damage. To what extent again hard to say withour knowing what exactly happened. Hydrostat does not like metal shavings on its polished surfaces. It couls be anything from broken shift fork to stripped gears. Your just gonna have to tear into the transmission to find out. I do have plenty of bx2200 transmission parts here as well as a complete transmission and if you send me your number im happy to help you through the process of tearing it down. Good luck
