My BX2200 had less than 8000 hours on it. Turn the key, the starter engages, engine turns over, but then when I release the key the starter disengages and the engine dies. Has anyone seen this? Any ideas?

Sounds like the stop solenoid is stopping fuel before the key turns off to shut it down.
My key switch was doing this a while back. Had to replace it. If I let the key go back from start by itself the engine would turn off ( but it was running). If I held the key and gently let it go back to run position the engine would continue to run.

If it's firing with the key on... and shutting down when the "Start" is released....

I'm pointing my finger at a bad key switch. For giggles... remove the wire on the stop solenoid, and start it. (you will have to reach in, and manual shut the fuel off to kill it)

Try to release the key slowly. See if it shuts down, and when it shuts down. I though mine was the shut off valve, but finally figured out it was just the switch.

Thank you all for the reply. The engine does fire when the key is turned to the start position. I am tested the resistance on each leg of the key switch and I think this is where my problem lies. the glow plug position tests ok. The starter and fuel pump legs both read ok at the start position, but then also both read open circuit when in the On position. I'll pick one up Monday and let you know how this turns out. Thank you all.
