bx2200 starter click-click issues

the starter and glow plugs need at least 10 vdc on them to start tractor

I have found voltage drops across pto switches and 30 amp fuse link to drop up to 2 vdc

my bx2200 had 8.3 vdc at glow plugs and starter trigger

clean up these resistive connections and ZOOM ZOOM -

problem will almost never be start switch, starter or battery HAPPY TRAILS

Many have solved this issue with respect to getting the starter turning by using a relay between the safety circuit and the starter. Maybe not your issue since you mention low voltage on the glow plugs.

I was having the click, click no-start issue for a year or more, and after installing the relay about three years ago, the problem was totally resolved. But in my case, the engine would not turn over, just click click...the finally a start after maybe ten tries...in summer temperatures.

Contemplated putting in the start relay - need at least 12.5 vdc at battery

put in new battery cables 4 gauge - found the anode also had cracked connection

pto switches are a pain in the tail but live and learn - thanks for reply

The relay used in the John Deere kit is somewhat unusual, and will pick up with as little as something like 7 volts, and will stay closed down to about 4 volts. I measured it but do not remember the exact numbers. Posted them in a thread somewhere, probably at TBN.

But since the current draw of a small relay is very low compared to the starter solenoid, it is likely a standard relay would work just as well.

I added the starter relay to bypass all the voltage drop points. Since then it starts great.

Couple comments on the schematic diagram that may not be obvious.

First, the diagram covers both the BX1800 and BX2200. The BX1800 has the D722 engine and uses the timer relay shown, which is tied to the fuel cut off solenoid. The BX2200 has the D905 engine, and does not have a timer relay. You need to do some creative thinking when viewing this diagram. Two fuel cut off solenoids are shown. Ignore the one for the D722 engine if you have a BX2200.

The second thing that is not shown very well, is that the safety circuit that sends power to the starter solenoid, continues on the the fuel shut off solenoid pull-in coil via wire 14W. The second coil is a hold coil fed by wire 20RB, that is energized when the key is turned on. (Unplug the fuel shutoff solenoid, and the starter will not activate, just the same as if one of the safety interlock switches failed.)

Last summer/fall I leaned a bit about this circuit when my fuel shutoff solenoid failed...just mentioning these details hoping to possibly help the next guy..

Thanks Henro - there is always more to the story and another chapter to be told - just thought I would address simple glow plug - starter - battery issues - 90 % of all electrical problems are connections - be it resistive relay contacts - loose connectors - tarnished cables - and the lists goes on - thanks
