At my wit's end on this one, need your help.
It started out I ran it the previous day with no problems. The next day when I went to start it barely cranked then stopped, no turning over or noises. I checked the battery, positive terminal was heavily corroded, so I cleaned that up and charge it up to be sure.
Currently when I turn the key to run (the second key position) the lights come on as normal, switch to glow plug )the third key position) and it is dead as if I turned it off. Nothing either when turned to start (the fourth key position).
What I have done so far is- had the starter and battery tested at autozone, say both is good. Checked out the safety switches on each side just inside of the wheel well under the seat with ohm meter, switches still working. Read a post here about checking the ignition switch itself, which I did and no problem there. The fuses I could find are good, cleaned all of the ground connections I could find.
I believe it has to be electrical, but I have to be missing something, please help me narrow it down.

Thanks

Sounds like a classic bad ground or positive cable. What happens is the cable breaks somewhere but a few of the strands still brush up against one another to give you basic dash lights. If you try a heavier load like the plugs or starter the few strands conducting current melt away from one another and it the circuit breaks. Check the pos\neg battery cables by putting a multimeter lead at either end and wiggling the cable. If you loose continuity then the cable is bad. Make sure your leads have good conductivity to the cable ends or you can get a false reading.

That's my theory anyway.

I checked the cables, they did have somevariable resistance so I replaced them anyway. I checked the battery again while under load (heating glow plugs- where the power would fail) and it dropped down to about 3 volts. I replaced the battery and it started right up :D. So much much for trusting Autozone Punks!!

Thanks for your reply.

Checked those first thing, as I have had that situation also. That's why I did spend the time to check the switches. Everything is good now.
