Several years ago I bought a used BX22. Used rough but still in good shape. Had a little feedback when the peddle was depressed fully in high gear. After year one I change the hydraulic fluid and no change. Next fluid change I took out the screen and found a few large pieces of metal in it.
over time the feedback was worse when I asked the tractor to climb.
Last year I could only used low gear. This winter I had the machine stop while moving snow.
Engine runs and pushing slightly above factor settings for hydraulic pressure. FEL and bucket work fine, just no locomotion.
Any suggestions? Some have said engine but cylinder pressure is good to standard on all cylinders. I think tranny. But it is suppose to have a bomb-proof tranny!

Seems as though some sort of "bomb" may have actually blasted off in there!

I'm sure Putin thought this about his tanks and ships too..
I hope it's not serious but does sound like the tranny since the rest seems to check out. Welcome to the forum!

Some have said engine
????

Why would anybody think you have an engine problem when you already know you have large metal pieces floating around in your transmission?????

Your trans is shot.

Yea it's not sounding good for the HST.
Does it act the same in reverse as it does is forward?

Thank you. I’ve been following for quite some time looking for a like problem and decided, as summer is upon us, I should do some serious troubleshooting.

This was our only Kubota dealer who told me this. Not really looking forward to bringing it to them!

I have a suspicion, based on your description, that the transmission may have an internal issue.

What kind of metal did you find on the screen? Steel? Aluminum? Or, brass/bronze/copper?

What kind of fluid is used.

I base the suspicion on the fact that you've described the tractor as purchased used, and rough. Secondly "hydrualic pressure above specification"--that often leads to fluid overheating when the tractor is used as a dozer. BX's don' t have a transmission fluid cooler other than the little fan on the shaft which is often damaged, broken or just completely gone--and in that case, the fluid is going to get hot. Often it's bandaided (and subsquently aggravated) by cranking the pressure up a little which makes it run hotter yet--leading to damaged HST and hydraulic pumps.

Pull the screen back out and see what's on it. If you see brass shavings, chances are very good that the HST is just plum shot and would require replacement and the trans case would also ideally need to be completely flushed of the shavings, and you might find quite a bit laying in the bottom. It's all gotta come out. Then after you get it back together, refill it with ONLY Super UDT2.

Just a really silly thought from way out in left field, lugbolt gave some very good advice, however and again it might sound silly but I have seen it before,, coff coff coff,,,,, have you checked the tire pressure? I have seen tire that look OK setting and running but real low pressure and the wheel was slipping on the bead,, like I said way out there

That usually only happens with tractors that have filled rear tires, with Rim Guard. or similar type of slippery products.

Not necessarily , these older tractors had very hard compound tires on them and I've see them spin on the rims with a completely flat tire and still look full.

If a tire was slipping on one rim and you have a differential lock and engaged it, then getting movement or not wouldn't that confirm it or rule it out?

Previous owner did use it tough and most likely knew problems were in the future. It had a very small amount of chatter/feedback when the peddle was fully depressed in high gear. Over time - six years - it got worse.
Upon bringing it gone I changed to Super UDT2. Next change after that I opened the screen and found parts to the transmission. Not copper. Most likely aluminum. Last trans change not pieces, only metallic dust. (Ran fluid through coffee filter to see what was in there. Very little).
Is trans replacement user level? What concerns should I have if I decided to do it?
thank you.

going out on a limb here, but i'm gonna say the hydro tranny is shot. no, the engine is not bad, yes..find you another dealer !..lol. the tractor will need to be split in order to remove the hydro tranny from the rear front end. word of caution !!!. there will not be anything cheap when it comes to buying parts to replace the damaged parts inside that hydro area !. going through this very same thing on a b2100, all was fine, but would not move forward or reverse ?, i knew this going in before i purchased it. here is a shot of what you are look at if you decide to take this job on yourself ?. please keep in mind, my tractor is a b2100, but they all use the same set-up to run the hydro to make it move !.

BX's are completely different animals than the larger machines. Basically a frame with the engine at the front and the transaxle at the rear with a propeller/drive shaft between. While it's still a lot of work it's way different than splitting a larger machine.
