The fuel gauge in my tractor has stopped working. When it was working, it would stay at empty until the tractor move around some, and then it would give a correct reading. Now, the needle is pinned at the far end of empty, so I am inclined to think a broken wire, or a grounded wire, depending on how the gauge works. What is involved in getting to the sending unit, and tracing the wire back to the dash? Do these series of tractors have a history of problems with the sending units? thanks

Mine sounds like yours as far as erratic operation goes. Been that way since new.

Since it does not work reliably when it works, why worry about it? I don't now and would not if mine failed like yours...

Guess it could be a failed sensor or shorted wiring...

I just try to remember to look in and see if there is any fuel visible, and fill when needed. Fortunately, the BX is self bleeding so if I run out of fuel, it is no big deal. Did that twice in 18 years...

a shorted wire normall makes gauge read full, real full, over full.....
usually fuel and temp are powered by a 'constant voltage ' supply so.. does the temp gauge work OK ? If so then power TO the gauge should be ok. ground the 'sensor' side of the gauge, it should moe th eneedle to over full PDQ. if it does, gauge is fine..so either
1) wire from gauge to sensor is open
2) faulty sensor in tank
3) open ground at sensor

I used to work with a guy that said that every electrical issue could be traced to something either being "open, shorted or grounded." Pretty true actually...LOL

Temperature gauge works and after using the tractor for 4 hours this morning, the gauge is still at empty. thanks Dusty

I had the leaking tank issue and bought the kit to fix it. If I remember correctly you have to take the rops off and the left rear fender. Then you had to rotate the tank down to get to the sending unit. I had to take my cab off etc and when I got it all back together, the sending unit isn't working right, it is out of fuel when it reads 1/4. If you take the sending unit out, take a picture right away, it is a multi piece lever and has to go back together right.
