Has anyone tried running a 5' rear finish mower with a BX1870? I once had a B1550DT and tried to run a Woods 5' finish rear mower and would not do it if heavier grass. The BX 1870 has a little more PT0 Hp, but not sure if enough to make a difference with the BX being a hydro and the B1550 was stick. I know a 4' would be better but the unit already has a 48 MMM. Looking to gain some additional cutting width and less mower time.

Tractor Data says you have about 13.7 PTO horsepower with that tractor so I don't think you'd be real happy pulling a five foot mower with it. Like your B1550 I'm sure it will bog down in high grass. Additionally the BX tractors are lighter overall than the B series. If you have any hills it would be like the tail wagging the dog. I run a five foot rotary mower behind my L2501 quite satisfactorily but it's a larger, heavier tractor.

If I were you, I'd be looking at something with more power. If your goal is to stay small, new and under the DPF requirements I'd be looking at a B2650.

I've had two different tractors with 5' RFM's. Still have a Ford 1210 HST 16 engine HP / 13.5 PTO HP with a Caroni mower since '91 or so. Had a Kubota B7500 HST with 21 engine HP / 16 PTO HP with a LandPride mower from 2002 till 2012.

All RFM's are not created equal. The Caroni is much lighter than the LandPride, and the Ford's 13.5 PTO HP handles it with ease. The LandPride was heavier and required all 16 PTO horses the Kubota could pump out, and it still was a bit too much going uphill when the grass was a bit tall.

I mentioned before that when I had those two combos at the same time, I swapped decks to see how it would go. The Kubota handled the lighter Caroni deck like it wasn't there, but the LandPride deck handled the Ford. Even with the two suitcase weights, the front of the Ford came off the ground easily and the 13.5 horses at the PTO didn't work out well at all.

Keep the MMM and buy a Swisher pull mower. They have their own engine and it can be offset so you could mow 8 feet a a time. I’ve done it with a Wheel Horse and it was a great way to cover a lot of ground in a hurry. Look up some of the you tubes about Swishers.
