Hello,

I have a BX1860 and been having an odd issue where it starts to sputter and eventually die after the tractor has run for 10 minutes or so. For the first 10 minutes or so until its warm the tractor runs normally. I'm in Canada so it's cold right now.

I have replaced the fuel filters and my next step is to change the fuel. I am not hopeful this will help though because it runs fine for the first ten minutes. Any ideas what could be wrong? Seems like a fuel issue to me but i've checked the air filter as well and it seems fine.

I tried taking of the fuel cap to see if there was pressure building up and it didnt make any difference

I've also put a clear line from the last fuel filter to the engine to see if any air was being pulled into the lines. No air was coming from the lines but there seemed to be the tiniest little bit of air coming from the engine side.

Thanks

Bill

Bill,

based on what you are describing - sounds as IF you have a restriction in the fuel from tank to 1st filter.

The best way to see this - climb under, pinch the line before 1st filter - container in hand - allow fuel to gravity feed - and watch and see IF it slows down over the duration. If it starts out with a good flow then starts to slow down, you will have found your problem.

Since you are up in the cold region - have you added ANY fuel treatment? Antigel agent?

looks like the same (or very.very similar) tank...
my 'lick' was a sliver of plastic lodged in the out going spigot.
NO way to see that from outside....had to remove/clean/reinstall the tank.
Not a hard job, though2 more hands to lift the friggin heavy seat and the awkard flllor/fender tin would have been nice.
As 85 says, BUT have a BIG container ! Or two.

Yep it sounds like you have a plug inthe line from the tank to the lift, pump, remember those lines do get soft over time and your 60 isnt a new machine just another thought,, if you have an air compressor, remove the line from the lift pump to the tank, and blow back in to the tank, if there is debris it will move it out of the way, then check your fuel discharge from the tank ,,,, I dont remember what the flow rate is suppose to be from the lift pump
I dont anyone that has ever found grass or bugs in the tank,,,,,, coff coff coff

Thanks all. There was definitely a restriction from the tank line. I blew an airline in and that cleared it and would run for a few minutes before stalling again. I guess my next step is to take the tank out and clean it? Will be a pain the ass right now. I don't have room in my garage so will have to do it outside on the driveway in the cold.

Just got hit with a foot of snow so need the tractor to dig out!

Also, I have Howes Diesel Treat that i put in after I first started having issues. I think its ice in the tank because it was a little warmer on the weekend (-2C) and the tractor ran fine.
Will adding diesel treatment now help remove ice thats already in the tank?

I use
Kleen-Flo Diesel Fuel Conditioner, 1-L
#038-0850-8

I had the same problem in winter.
No problem since I changed the fuel treatment to Kleen-Flo .

Your garage is 'supposed' to have your tractor in it.... ;)
Honestly, clear out a spot 2x bigger than your tractor, get 1-2 guys and in 4 hours you'll be 'up and running'. It's not that hard.
I did my BX23S and it was an 'ok' job,but a pair of extra hands would have been helpful.Odds are you're younger than 70, have a good back, good eyesight.....all pluses when doing the deed.
Also, buy a 'Mason jar cold brew coffee filter', I got mine from TEMU for 1/3rd of Amazon wanted.

this might be it... if add says local warehouse, $4 shipping 2-3 days !!!
