Hello All, just found this sight and have already learned that I have not been doing enough routine maintenance on my BX1830. Have had BX1830 for 5 years with no trouble. Have been changing oil and cleaning air filter. Ocassionally topped off transmission fluid. Was using rototiller, stopped to take a break, then would not start up again. Pulled and tested the two safety switches under the seat and both function properly. Made sure PTO was not engaged, made sure transmission was in neutral. Not sure how to test the neutral safety switch as it has multiple wires and not readily accessible. Same with the PTO switch. Battery test fine. Dealer said to start it, I need to jump across the starter. Looked at the starter, see a boot covered large red cable from the + side of the battery along with smaller gauge red wire. Also see plugin with black/white wire. On the back side of the starter up against the engine block appears to be another boot. Anyone know what lugs am I supposed to short across to get it started? Hopefully, not that back lug that I can barely reach. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Remove the black/white wire from the terminal on the starter. Then jumper from the large terminal (red) on the starter to the terminal on the starter that you removed the black/white wire from, the tractor should them crank. It may not start though, depending on what safety is not satisfied! BEFORE YOU DO ALL THIS BE DAMN SURE IT IS IN NEUTRAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! even a BX1830 is very uncomfortable to get run over with!

Well I came way too close to getting run over by a 1070 Case about 30 years ago! It's something I'll NEVER forget! Gotta say though it has made me respect and even admire safety switches!

Thank you Ed for the advice. It started right up following your procedures on the starter.

When I sit down in the driver's seat, the engine dies. I bypassed the switch under the seat and it seems to operate without dying. I checked the switch again with a meter and it still has continuity when I depress the switch. If I shut the engine off, it still won't start unless I short across the starter again. Something else must be faulty, but at least now I can drive it onto the trailer and have my dealer check it out.

Thanks for helping me get off dead center.:)
