Question- my2000 BX1800 started on its own - my son found it idling & really didn’t know how long it had been running & pulled the kill cable. ( I quit buying the shutoff solenoids). And the gear end of the starter was snapped off. I’ve put in a new starter & battery hooked up cables & arced fire & turned the starter on. I disconnected immediately. I traced all the wires no bear spots . I unplugged the little relay on the small wire going from the switch to the starter reconnected battery no arch. I’m thinking that’s my problem but - what do you call the little relay thing . It looks almost like a fuse holder.

I just downloaded the BX1800 WSM fro kubotabooks.com and there is no 'little relay thing'. The power goes from switch through 2 safety switches to the starter. Sounds as if someone added a relay to bypass the safety switches or maybe tractor was upgraded after the WSM was printed ?. Pictures would help.

Here's your wiring diagram.

D905 is the engine stop solenoid.
D722 is the timer relay for the engine stop solenoid.

The start signal from the key switch goes through two safety interlock switches before it reaches the solenoid on the starter itself.

So I’m assuming the seat & shifter safety correct - if one of those short out will it start on its own? ?

That's not a relay, that's a MAXI slow blow 30amp fuse
If it has a connection from terminal to terminal it's fine.

You have a bad ignition switch, or you had a bad starter / solenoid.
You've replaced the starter I would replace the ignition switch to be safe.

NO.
It was an internal short in the starter solenoid or the ignition switch.
Most likely the starter solenoid as both safety switches would have been in the open position unless they have been bypassed.

Do you keep a log (or keep aware) of the hour-meter on your tractor? Was the Key “On”..?
Does anybody sometimes start the tractor and let it “warm up” …while they attend other matters..?

I just got a bunch of dash mountable digital voltmeters( <$3 ea). Plan is to install one in EVERY machine(8) to that when key is left 'on', there's an 'in your face' warning.

That's just one reason that I use a battery disconnect switch on all my equipment. Cheap insurance.

I like the battery disconnect switches also. I leave the keys in my tractor almost all the time so this is one way to potentially slow a thief. Tractor is locked in my shop but still makes me feel a bit better having the switch. Would be pretty weird to open the shop door and find big orange running though. Hope the starter was the issue. I’d probably also do the ignition as mentioned by others. Just for peace of mind.
