BX1500 Transmission Capacity?

New here. I have a BX1500 purchased back in Nov. '04 which I use primarily for snowblowing, but also to mow the small amount of grass I have.

I performed the 50 hour maintenance, including the transmission oil change and don't recollect any questions or concerns on my part at that time. I recently did another transmission oil change at the 300 hour mark. The manual states a capacity of 2.7 gallons. I purchased a 2.5 gallon container of Kubota Super UDT plus another quart. I dumped in the 2.5 gallons and then slowly began adding the quart while checking the dip stick. Ended up putting in the full quart and still nothing on the dip stick. Any thoughts on what's going on here? And no, there are no leaks of any kind on this tractor. Is it possible the capacity stated doesn't account for what goes into the transmission filter?

My usual experience on this kind is that one usually adds a bit less than full capacity since somehow one never completely drains whatever. Thanks.

So often, people come with a problem, an we give them different fix's. Yet they never come back to let us know what worked once they have it fixed.

If they come back an tell the rest of the story (what worked) then the next guy will know what to do without having to go to the same trouble as you did.

Finally getting back. As I said, it called for 2.7 gal., a tad shy of 11 qts. I put in 12 qts. with no reading on the dipstick. Finally added about another 2/3 qt. and it finally came up to the mark.

The Kubota dealer that I spoke to thought the additional might be attributable to the hydraulic lines going up to the hydraulic control pedestal. That may be, but it sure doesn't look like the lines, as small as they are, would account for that much additional and I would suspect that there would be enough vapor lock to prevent complete draining.

Oh well, live and learn.
