I recently got my first Kubota, a BX1500, and have a question/issue when starting. When I try to start the tractor when cold it will not turn over, it just sits and clicks. If I try to start with a jump pack, it will not turn over. The jumper pack does indicate that the tractor is drawing from the jump pack, but it wont turn over.
If I put a "starting charger" on the system after a few tries it starts right up and starts fine the rest of the day as long as the tractor is warm.
My question is there some sort of temp switch that keeps the BX1500 from turning over? I would think if it was a safety switch it would occur all the time, warm or cold.
I would appreciate any advice/help on troubleshooting this issue.

No temp switch, that would kind of defeat using it all year.

Pull the battery take it to an automotive parts store or battery store and have it load tested.
If that passes check both ends of both of both cables, remove them and clean both sides, then if it still won't work get a new starter. ;)

Chances are it is not the starter. Cleaning the cable ends and the posts is likely all that was needed. You may find this problem will occur in a few years. It is very common, even in new equipment..

I took the starter to get it checked, definitely the issue due to a failed solenoid and seized front bearing. Thanks for the input.

Hi SKohrs!
I have starter problem and believe starter or solenoid is issue. Can you tell me how you got the starter off and out from behind the braces around the engine. I have everything loose and can't find the room to wiggle it out. Runs into sensor behind and mounting plate in the front. Thanks for any help.

I had to remove the oil pressure switch to get the starter out. Everything has to be loose including the brace around the engine to the weight on the top. Take the bolts out of the top. Take out the two upper bolts on the bottom, you will need to use a pry bar to pry the engine up (I used a engine boss near the front of the engine) enough to get the bolts out. Loosen the bottom bolts as much as possible and you should be able to get the starter out. Then you got to do it in reverse, it took me about an hour to get the starter out, and about 30 minutes to get it all back together.
Hope this helps
