Any BX owners pulling a land plane? Am on the hunt for one but don't want to get one to large for my 1880. My 1880 is 4 feet wide. Am thinking of getting a 5 foot wide. Or should I go with a 4 foot wide so I don't bogged down. Appreciate any replies.

I have an L2501 with 6 ft Grader/Scraper GS1572. Sometimes, I have to let up on my treadle going uphill depending on how much material is picked up, but I also have a M and not just L or H.

If you were in L, I think it would be easy enough to pull the 5 ft. You can also adjust the angle to not keep as much material. The Land Pride range is 20-50. I don't know if 1880 is close enough to 20 that it won't matter.

I would go with the 5ft to be able to cover a slightly wider path and cover the tire tracks better, but it potentially has 25% material to pull since it's a foot wider. If you will make 2 passes each direction, maybe there is not much of an advantage of going with 1 ft wider.

I have 25 HP in my SCUT, and easily pull a 60" land plane ... Generally I find traction is more of a problem for me, than engine HP! And I use high range in my high/low range HST transmission.

My land plane doesn't have "rippers" though, so if you get one that does, and try to bury 4-5 of them ... You'll have a good parking brake! šŸ˜‚

Don't think I will need the rippers but just want to skim a little at a time. Definitely want the adjustable cutting blades. Have seen some without online. Price ranges from around $1600 and up for new. Am looking for used though. Thanks for the replies.

You will run out of traction long before you run out of power no reason a 60 incher would give you trouble

My blades aren't adjustable, that I know of ... They hang down about 1/2" now, they cut good ...

Here is a video of it in action ...

Land plane

I added 50" long 1/4" thick 2" angle iron to it, as it was cutting too deep, but with the short 32" length of runners, I wanted it longer, as I had some dips that were longer than that, so I added the angle, it's much smoother now ...

I also added a couple of little "teeth" to it out of the 2" angle iron, as I was hoping they would tear up the weeds more in my driveway (biggest reason I use it!) but they do very little! I'm thinking of cutting part of them, and twisting them a bit to see if they will disturb more of the weeds roots?

I like to go both directions with it to kill the weeds, but makes for a very smooth driveway!

I think a 4 ft land plane would be best for a BX1880. So maybe you have to do an extra pass to cover the width you want to groom. If you have hills to go up and/or areas with heavy packed material you might find a 5 ft land plane too much for a n 18 hp and relatively light weight tractor. If you just have flat land with relatively loose material then maybe a 5 footer would work.

Just flat land. A small incline at top of driveway. Driveway was all packed sand. Brought in 6 loads of class II. My 1st winter with my 3 point snow blower I blew at least 1 load into my yard. Dig in at uneven spots. The land plane will help me level it good in hopes to get rid of the dips I have.

Am seeing some land planes angle to one side, straight across, and now just saw one with one blade angled one way and the other blade angled the other way. Most I see both angle one way. Does it matter? Am seeing these on facebook marketplace.
