Hi-

How much of the ram should one see when the bucket on a BX is on the ground, at rest?

I noticed this afternoon that I can see maybe 1.5” of the silver section of my BX’s curl cylinder after stepping in the bucket. Is this ok? Should I consider rebuilding the cylinder? Picture attached for reference.

Thanks!

It’s normal. If the design was made to take the cyl all the way to it’s limits under normal operations the mechanism would be stressed unnecessarily each time it was operated.

No, not a trick question, sorry. Just don’t have a lot of experience with this, so thought I’d ask those with more expertise.

yep, normal when sitting on the ground, it doesn’t need a rebuild until it starts leaking, if you keep the hydro oil and cylinders clean that will be a long time.

The trick part of the question is, what is the elevation of the ground in front of the tractor?

Visualize this, if you pull your tractor up to a dirt pile and set the bucket down, how much shine will you see on the cylinder then? Answer is, how high is the dirt pile!

@beex, GeoHorn - Thanks for the info!

@D2Cat - The bucket was resting on my garage floor, which is level.
I have a Piranha Tooth bar on my BX bucket.

If curled fully when resting on the floor, the toothbar/ front edge is raised from the floor a little. This creates possible injury risk to one's ankles or shins....ask me how I know....😫

If bucket is level, guessing you have enough room to retract the spare shaft back into the barrel.
