bx 24 with 100 hours

hello all,

I am looking at purchasing a kubota bx24 with approximately 100 hours on it. I have personally put 25 or so hours on it, using it for the owner who is no longer able to get onto the machine. All in all it feels like a fine unit, and it is a major upgrade to me over years of using aging garden tractor with various leaks, breakdowns, engine issues, etc. The tractor is equipped with the loader, backhoe and he supposedly has some "metal pieces in a box" which he thinks might be mower deck mounts, i haven't seen them, i expect nothing since he's known to tell tall tales. He also claims that before the last 14 hours I put on it, that marshals machinery (kubota dealer in honesdale pa) did the 100 hour service on it, once again, with him telling tall tales, i won't believe it until i see literature. Is there anything in particular i should be looking for before purchasing this unit? any input is appreciated.

Check to see if the blades are still on the plastic fan that cools the transmission

If a dealer did the 100 hours service, you can ask for a receipt from the owner, or call the dealer and confirm the work was done. If so, it should be ready to go...
If it was properly serviced at around 100 hours, the HST fan should have been checked by the dealer. No harm looking underneath to be sure....

I was at the dealership today to get tire chains for my other machine, having over 36" of snow to move with a 2x4 loader proved to become difficult after a while. I was going to ask the dealer about this but I have yet to secure the last few bucks in funding for the kubota and figured I would wait until I'm ready to buy before bothering the dealer. Also after some research I am now concerned about the fan, as he has had the tractor sunk up to the frame in snow, I used the loader bucket to leverage it out more than once. I think after the 5th or 6th time he learned what his ground clearance is, lol. I absolutely love the unit, i've made snow banks 8-10 feet high with it and it never gave me a lick of trouble. The first 20-30 hours of use on it were at half throttle driving around on the road to break it in proper as he claimed.

Buy the fan shroud protector (aftermarket) and enjoy yourself. Great machine and it looks like you got a great deal as I did in my used Kubota. Bought mine with 126 hours and just passed 305. I have moved almost 500 tons of material with it in the 180-odd hours I have used it. No typo there. 500.

he's a great guy, no doubt. and I've never once charged him to run the tractor. one time i applied for a job that required a reference for basic equipment operation, he vouched, i got the job and made good money. just waiting on a few oddball pieces of equipment i have to sell then I'm fairly sure ill jump on it. still not sure if i'll transport it on my truck, or get a 6x12 trailer. I know my truck will hold it, it just looks sketchy.

Not in the US.
Just get a bill of sale note the serial # off the frame on it.

No title in Canada either. Just get that bill of sale signed by previous owner with serial number for tractor and all attachments (for those that have serial numbers)

Also, if you want to insure the tractor, your insurance company may want a copy of the BOS, for the actual "value" of the machine. Mine did....

Always make sure the fuel you use is clean. A fine screen in a funnel for filling might be helpful. The small fuel filters easily plug early on otherwise.

I was actually looking into filters and fluids for these machines, i noticed they seem to only use an inline filter, my old yammers use a canister style with a shutoff built into it. would there be any benefit from upgrading to the larger, canister style filters? also thank you for the information with insurance, i may insure it incase of theft or unexpected damage from a tree falling, etc.

Insurance, if you use it only on your property can usually be a rider on your home insurance, not too expensive (mine is less than 0.25% of the tractor value/year). However, if you ever use it off your property, even to help a neighbor, liability coverage is a whole new ball game...

EDIT: Got me thinking, called my insurance. I'm covered if helping a neighbor as long as there is no money (reward) or contract involved. Only requirement is I meet the highway act when I drive on the road to the neighbor, which I do (as do most "farm tractors" with SMV sign in most jurisdictions...)

well luckily for me i think its going to stay in my yard, i figure if i buy a nice toy, err i mean tool i might as well get my moneys worth out of it before helping others lol.
