never had one so stuck that a hammer and good quality punch wouldn't knock it out

bent many a cheap punch though....

the nail in the coffin with cheap punch sets was when a chisel tip/corner broke the tip off and went through my right cheek. Not the butt cheek either!

thanks...I get the idea, but will google it as well...I'll go spray some WD-40. Maybe that will loosen some things up!
If the WD40 doesn't work try a product called Thrust, it has never failed me, been using it for years. Only sold by area distributors I think. Not in auto parts stores.

I use Kroil and Deep Creep, and neither has failed me ever! WD40 is not a good penetrant. In this case, since you are going to be replacing the shaft, then heat is your friend. Time to break out the hot wrench!

Something I have used on my classic Mini Cooper when trying to drill in a difficult place was to use a 1/16" drill bit on a Dremel with the 90 degree adapter. The speed of the Dremel will make a quick starting hole with a good drill bit.
thanks...I may need to try this option..
