Box blade with 'Top and Tilt.' A land plane with rear hydraulic wheels would do a better job but it's limited to that job. So a) you will want a blade anyway & b) where are you going to park that extra implement. I could add a G Earth photo of the FinLaws place but most of us can't afford 80 acres for what we call the 'line up'.

- sorry but we worked til 3 am.
Yep, we have a drag scraper like this: http://www.landpride.com/products/77/bb45-series-drag-scrapers

We bought ours when we were doing site preparation on my house as well as my dad's and brother's as well as building new roads on two farms. It works great, but can be a bear to transport and as noted takes a lot of room to store, so I don't normally recommend one.

Thanks Paulstate. No matter what B model you choose, have no fear of any work.
They may take longer to do it than a big tractor, but they will do it.

Thanks Oliver. I really like showing people what these small tractors can do. They impress the heck out of me. And use minimal fuel to do it.

I really like the BX25 especially the smaller size, because I'll have to cut and Maneuver around many trees! But first I need power to help clear the land, thinking the B2601 series may have a little more beef! I used a older JD 40hp today moving clay, wasn't too happy lost a tire, will try again Tomorrow! I appreciate your input, Thanks!

After looking at specs from Kubota... the BX actually has more HP at engine and PTO than the B2601. B2601 does have significantly better (almost 2x) lifting power. Just make sure you really know what you're buying. I almost got the B model, but figured I was getting more bang for my buck with the BX. Start looking at attachments you want, and go by the required HP for those attachments (while also considering how much you really need to lift).

I have a little over 2 acres and bought a B2650. My previous tractor was a 1998 B2400, and I am still amazed at how much more tractor the 2650 is compared to the B2400. I opted for turf tires since most of my work is mowing and snow removal. The 2650 does things in 2wd that required 4wd with the 2400..

This didn't make sense so I just took a look on Kubota's site. The most powerful BX listed is the BX2670 at 25.5hp and 19.5hp at the PTO, spinning at 3,200 rpm. BX2680 isn't on the site yet but I think it uses the same D1105 (1,001cc) engine.

B2601 uses the larger, torquier, D1105 (1,123cc) engine producing the same 25.5 and 19.5 hp but at 2,800, 400 less rpm.

Good point didn't catch that... However, I'm not convinced that means much. Would be interesting to see a power curve. Either way, I'm certain that Kubota measures HP for both machines at the peak of the power curve, therefore suggesting the max HP for both machines. Just because the B hits it earlier in the power band doesn't mean it will have even more HP at higher revs. I would agree, however, that because the B hits peak HP at a lower rpm, it is likely to have more torque than the BX.

Look at the other specs as well. In several areas, the B2301/2601 is really a step back from the bx2670. You are just paying for a larger frame at that point. For example, B has: smaller battery size (430 vs. 540cca), dynamo in B vs alternator in BX. Most surprising-- BX2670 has higher axle capacity (1630-front/2120 rear) vs B2602 (1323-front/1764-rear).

The B2301/2601 *almost* seems to be a marketing ploy for people who just want a slightly larger tractor than the BX, without much added power. What am I missing here? (Not trying to be argumentative.... just found the specs for both machines very peculiar).

Well, in layman terms, the B2601 would rip the guts out of a BX2670.

More engine CCs, larger hydro pump, heavier frame, taller tires and three range tranny that has a Lo that is lower than a BX Lo.

Crank HP has little to do with how well the rest of the tractor can do work.

You think a BX has a snowballs chance against a 100 cubic inch 2400 lb L frame?

I owned the predecessor of the 2601, a B7610. After using a BX25D for a few hours its not a comparison. Other than the stout little backhoe, my small B was noticeably better at all other tasks.

How do I know if a B2601 is too small or too big (4 acres) first time tractor buyer?
I have had a BX2660 for 7 years, it is a great tractor and has worked well. I have 8 acres that I work with it, mostly clearing with a bush hog, hauling limbs and brush to burn, mowing (two acres are grass), hauling firewood, and lots of overall work. It handles these things pretty well but is a bit light for larger trees, stumps, and lifting larger logs. It is a great tractor. However it is just too light for digging out stumps and roots, hauling larger logs, and moving large quantities of dirt. So I am now adding a larger tractor, an L4701 which is about twice the tractor, with a Back hoe. I do not regret buying the BX2660 but have realized in the past seven years that a bigger tractor will do a lot of jobs I try to to with the BX.
Attached photos may help explain. I hope this helps you in your decision.

I rented a BX25D from Home Depot and tried it for a day on my 16 acres. Will be replacing my 31 year old L2250 and the 25D is not enough machine for my needs. Can't get an L with a MMM now so settled on 2601 or 2650. Wife and son prefer 2601, myself the 2650. Will decide in a week or so, glad I tried the 25D before buying one.

When ever buying a tractor I found it's always a good idea to buy a little bigger than you think you need. There's no such thing as to much power , just my opinion.
