Would you guys gamble on a B7100 that has fuel in the oil?

what are the odds this is just an injector problem?
what are the odds it needs a entire rebuild kit ($500-$700 I guess)
what are the odds it has cracked block?

part of me thinks the price isn't bad with the included attachments and could be fun to rebuild
part of me is worried that it needs more than just a rebuild kit and could cost significantly more
and finally part of me think I dont need another tractor (I have a new <150 hour non orange subcompact already ) but I dont have a snow blower or front blade

I dont know, still high ......I would look at under 2k.........unless the parts to you are worth more than a running tractor!:)

I would, but I'm sort of nuts that way

what are the odds this is just an injector problem?

Not much of a chance at flooding the oil with fuel if that were the problem

what are the odds it needs a entire rebuild kit ($500-$700 I guess)

Good chance that it needs either the injection pump rebuilt or replaced!

what are the odds it has cracked block?

It would have water in the oil not fuel

The one part that really worries me is that it's supposedly been rebuilt.

It's possible to rebuild an engine and not rebuild a fuel pump, or rebuild the fuel pump wrong. This is exactly what my father did when he first rebuilt the fuel pump on the D-17. He pinched the seal and didn't know it. It ran fuel into the engine block and made a mess. We ended up re-rebuilding the fuel pump again only a few months later and were very careful with the seals. No leaks the second time around.

So, not rebuilt, or rebuilt with an 'oops' can still cause the issue.

^^^^^^ that is the part that got my attention too!^^^^^^^

My initial thoughts on that were they used the kit that didn't come with cylinder sleeves and the existing sleeves should have been replaced.

Or maybe they damaged the piston rings somehow when installing them..

Good chance that it needs either the injection pump rebuilt or replaced!
Would a bad injector pump cause damage to rings or sleeves? What am I getting at could they have rebuild the engine, but didn't do anything to the injector pump when the should have so they ended up with the same problem a second time. I.E. they fixed the symptom but not the real problem.

I thought the price was high too but really didn't know how much the 3 implements were worth.

I guess this answers part of my question above.

Price willing to pay depends a lot on" 1. How bad do want/need tractor. 2 How bad do you want/need all three implements. 3. How you feel about your mechanical abilities.

An example, I don't need/want a snow blower, so that effects my decision. But I might know someone who is looking for one. So I have to factor that in....

I'd say figure 400 for each implement = 1200. Add 500 for the tractor and take a gamble on parts to fix. Total is 1700.

Tell owner with age of implements and tractor and the fact the tractor is unknown damage/repair offer 1500, knowing you'd go to 1700. Just me--spending your money!! (Because Minneapolis is to far for me to haul a tractor project!!)

D2 Cat is dead on. Offer assuming the tractor is junk, seriously. Buy it for parts/implements and pay accordingly. Then look into fixing it. The 7100's are pretty damn bulletproof and you can still get parts for them. Injection pump is most likely the issue. A compression test is the fastest way to check your bottom end of the motor (block, pistons, rings, etc). Often its WAY cheaper and easier to fix than expected.

Has anyone else noticed that the tractor is not a B7100 or at least not with the original engine. The intake and exhaust are on the wrong side for it to be a B7100.

On second thought With the picture reversed it makes it look like the intake and exhaust are reversed also. I guess it is a B7100.

Is that the standard hydraulic valve in that picture?
