Everyone should know that. I certainly should. But sometimes we get seduced by a really good price. . .

I needed an 18" auger for my tower project. Just have to drill 4 holes. I went to put on the auger extension for the 3rd hole and found this:

Will be taking it to a welder friend to reinforce those bolt holes

Looks like they put the wrong SKU label on it. Clearly says “Heavy Duty” on the same sticker the SKU is on. Evidence indicates otherwise…

Made from genuine Chinesium. Probably a label that said 10 hp max missing.

Do you know if those bolts are intended to shear to protect the rest of the system? There is serious torque developed by a large auger running at low RPM.

I have a shear bolt on the pto shaft. It should go first. It's 1/4" grade 2 or 5 iirc, the bolts through the auger shaft are 1/2".
