All, I came across a smaller 42" rotary cutter that appears to be in excellent shape. I'm not sure of the age but the metal decking and sides are not beat up or rusted at all. There doesn't appear to be any leakage of the gear box where pto shaft connects. At the time I couldn't look underneath the cutter. Bush Hog brand has always been known to be good equipment in this area. The gentleman is asking $300 for the little cutter. I'm not looking to cut acres and acres with this cutter only trails and small food plots. I'll be using behind a BX22. I've only found two or 3 48" cutters to compare prices and they are all in the $800+.

Bush Hog is a good product. They were so good they became the common phrase for all brush cutters....kinda like Kleenex tissue, Cresent Wrench, Skill Saw, Zerox and Vice Grip.

They started, and still are, in Selma, Al.

If 42" is what you need it's a good price. Smaller brush mowers are more difficult to find the larger ones, and therefore the prices seem to be higher then you might expect.

I'm hoping I can go take a look at it today. I've left a message with the gentleman. Hopefully he will get back to me. Another plus is its not very far from me and being BH brand parts should be easy to come by if I need some.

Alrighty Ya'll.......I went and picked it up. Got it for $250. Its an Bush Hog SQ420 squealer. It uses a shear bolt and not a clutch and it doesn't have a stump jumper. Not having the stump jumper is how I got him down to $250. I haven't gotten it hooked to a tractor yet but here is a couple pics.

The gear box had plenty of grease, it wasn't dirty. I couldn't find any evidence of a leak. The shaft turned smoothly while it was on the trailer. The only thing that I've done so far is grease the pto shaft, ujoints, rear wheel and get it hooked to the tractor. I've going to go give it a whirl after lunch.

That was a good buy, look like it was not abused. You'll get your investment back easily.
I would have bought it for $250 even though I don't need it.

The only thing I've noticed.....when I got it home and checked the gear box grease there was some pressure in the box. It kinda pooted grease out. I pulled the breather out and squirted some DeepCreep in it and got it breathing again. I've looked at the blades and they don't look all beat to hell like you would expect a bushhog blade to look. I really think the only thing this little cutter was used for was cutting grass. From what I;ve seen so far, I'm pleased with my purchase.

The only thing I think it needs is a new laminated pivot wheel and maybe a slip clutch.

Nothing is really wrong with the wheel that's there now other than you cant grease it. When it fails or the rubber comes off I'll replace it with a laminated wheel

One thing I notice is there is no flopper link, behind the toplink attachment point. May give you problems with dragging, or level adjustment. there was a thread on this, here, not too long ago...:D:D

There is a flopper link.....it was just doing its thing.....it was flopped down where you couldn't see it. If you look at the top of the A frame you can see the bottom of the U-shaped flopper piece.
