Good morning OTT, I know we have some gun owners here and I wanted to share a recent experience I had with my 5 year old Browning 300 WSM X-Bolt.

Went to remove from safe one night for my hunt the next morning and noticed the stock was sticky, it is a Dura Touch stock. Thought this was strange as I never wipe the stock with solvent and only use Rem oil on metal parts.

Over next few days hunting it got worse and worse......

researched online and a found many owners of same rifle saw similar problem and mixed reviews on if Browning would repair gun this old.

Called Browning and after a 5 minute discussion was pleased, yes they will repair. Only cost is for shipment to Browning.

They did say it would take 6 to 8 months to strip and re-coat stock as they are back logged. They recognized a problem with the formulation of the coating and are standing behind the Browning name and want satisfied customers.

The short of it they will repair the rifle, cost to me shipping, 6-8 months turn time. You will have to remove your scope and mounts, sling, tripod, etc.

Give them a call if you have a similar problem and get the ball rolling.

Have a great day and mine will be in mail this week.

As a woodworker, I have seen something like this before, not with gun stocks per say, it typically comes down to a "bad" batch of lacquer or resin that is applied to wood.

I had a stock a while back off an old bolt action shotgun (an item I had not seen), the stock was, well - yuck. It was sticky and beat up, one of those plywood laminate stocks. I took everything off and sanded the 'ell out of it and got 95% of the deep gouges out and stained then sprayed clear over it. It turned out very nice!

I hope they gave you a date in the future that will be met sooner than later! I always like when the mechanic says 2 weeks and has it ready in 2 days! Best of luck and shoot some pictures up if/when it comes back!

Mine is a black synthetic stock that is coated with the dura touch to make it easier to grip.

Good idea, I will load some B & A pics.

Yes, maybe it will be back sooner but I usually don't drag it out before November as I like to bow hunt. Will need to sight it back in though as my scope for it is a Swarvoski 3x15x56 is currently resting on the top of the safe.

must be a hellva problem. I can see how it would be a "good" thing.....but I betcha the solvents from cleaning have something to do with it, or the product itself breaks down over time. I will have to admit, most all my handguns, carries - have a grip of some kind, either a sandpaperish or rubber textured applied, something that allows for easier holding. Despite not being sprayed on, they can get "sticky" nasty over time - they make a world of difference however.
