Hi guys,
I have a L3410 4x4. The other day I was pushing a large tree that had fallen with the loader bucket. It didn't want to move so I backed up and gave it a good whack. As I did, the front end stopped pulling. I got it back to the barn and discovered that the 4 bolts that hold the front diff in place were missing. I ordered new bolts and today while putting them in, discovered that the diff shaft coming out of the front end (not the 12 - 14" attaching shaft) had broken about 1" off. Can I have that welded or am I looking at a pinion replacement?

I doubt if you can, or want to weld it. That is a critical point, and would be difficult to weld, and to keep it perfectly lined up. You should replace the pinion shaft.
