KTAC or not, I would absolutely be taking this to Kubota & the dealer for warranty resolution. 50 hours and broken casting... come on?

IMO You don't know what or how it cracked and it should be up for the use. Do not take the notion that you "did it". FWIW & NOT useful to OP, but KTAC is supposed to cover stupidity also

Edit - not uncommon for one or more of the hydr. hose fittings to loosen early on. I would bet that is a simple non-issue.

Can you post some pics?
You obviously understand, but some here should pay attention to the prior posts!
The OP has CLEARLY stated.... "No KTAC available up here"
To me that simply means that there is no KTAC available in Canada!
It makes absolutely ZERO sense for posters to continually recommend KTAC, when it is not available to the OP.

I had not even started to use the BH. I was trying to get the transport pin out of the swing and the casting broke. I continued to use the BH and it is not a fatal break I can still use the backhoe. I have contacted the dealer and will see what happens overall I could not be happier with the tractor or the BH View attachment 81170
Right - and so my thoughts would be it should hold up to that and not cracked. I have been getting "better" ingrained habits after spending a lot of time with mine but still have the occasion brain lapse and go against the pin. I would be shocked to think it is not meant to hold against that movement as designed.

Worst case scenario, some old-timers can 1) braze weld castings to get you back to some level of safety lock with the piece you have. You are not protected against that one side boom movement when transporting you could live with it and 2) accommodate with extra straps or 3) perhaps drill & tap some kind of half steel collar (search in plumbing supplies) or fashion one out of heavy bar stock.

FWIW - I am NOT the "bubba" they refer to with old cars but do have some of the same skill sets :p

The fracture is blurry but I think that part is steel. If the dealer strands you then a repair with some prep should be easy.

It's not called KTAC in Canada but the insurance coverage Kubota required to finance my tractor is as broad as KTAC for replacement value on any damage, operator idiocy-caused included. It's underwritten by AIG I seem to remember. So until I pay off the 0% Kubota financing it's fully replacement covered.

Hi I just wanted to update on this issue. I contacted the dealer back in June on the broken casting and He emailed me that the casting is going to be in next week and they are picking up the tractor to repair. I have used the backhoe a lot this summer and noticed the swing is much faster than the other cylinders. but my highest praise for Nova International

Alysford Nova Scotia. But there are other branches. They came and got the tractor on Thursday hopefully will have it back today or tomorrow. My Grapple is a bit sticky and will not close unless I turn down the rpm so They are going to look at that also.

They also run sales on maintenance parts on line so in Canada may be a good source for those items once you are on the email list. they will notifiy of sales. I have only gotten two emails from them since January to announce sales so they are not pushy. So far they have been really great to deal with.

On both of my BX TLB machines, I never broke that casting, and it wasn't unusual to need to drop the pin into the upper hole and then move the boom right or left to have it fall all the way down into the second hole. If that is abuse, then I would have cracked mine, but never did. Occasionally I would forget to pull the pin and would operate the backhoe, but it wouldn't move, and that should have broken the casting also, but it never did. I believe that it was a defective casting to start and should be replaced under the factory warranty.

I know this is an older thread, Mine broke last weekend im guessing driving in the field.

I washed the mud/dirt off the BH plate middle of last week, so I can do my 50 hr. maintenance.

Yup, 52 hrs and I can't remember last time a used the BH.

My original post on another forum:

So, I went down to the barn to kill some bees and noticed the door were pushed out and broken, but the lock was still attached.

I thought someone tried to break in.

I opened the doors and my BH had bleed done into the door, I was like wtf??

I went to check the pin to see if it bounced out or something.

Nope, The casting broke off, very clean snap, the casting is very grainy and sandy looking, like Heat Treat was off? or the annealing process.

Has anyone seen this before?

THE PIN WAS STILL IN THE HOLE

mmm...I can't remember when I even used it last, been a couple weeks. Mostly using rake and FEL, you would think with that big pin through 3 pcs of metal, especially how thick the Billet middle pcs is that no way could it break one ear only.
Had to of happened last weekend, because I sprayed it off last week and I would of seen the broken pc laying back there, when I sprayed the top plate off to measure it.

So I have found 3 in last 2 years that broke at 50/52 hrs....I believe it is a crappy casting made during the plandemic, I need to call the dealer...

Mine broke when I put the pin "temporarily" back in the hole when the backhoe was turned all the way to the right for an extra tight load on the trailer, thinking it was a good place to store it for the time being.

Well, you guessed it, I forgot that pin was still there when I unloaded the tractor, and once on the ground swung the boom back to re-center it, and BANG that pin carved off a piece of the backhoe swing lock hole just like yours.

Did you fix it?

If warranted I'll have them fix it, it works fine with only 1 ear on it.

Waiting on dealer response today

Can't blame the machine part for breaking, but you can try. Just don't tell the dealer what happened, and play dumb.

I'm just living with it broken off.

When I trailer it I tie-down the bucket tightly anyway.

Also, at this point it's well off warranty, so I'd probably opt for having a good welder rebuild the pin keeper with maybe an add-on mild steel plate with a hole the same size welded to the top of that cast.

But then we're playing the "which component breaks first" game so reinforcing the pin guide may have other structural consequences later.

I'll likely never fix it.

I dropped off tractor on Monday after work, they just called and are bringing it back in the morning. I will keep the pin out from now on, unless maintenance demands it needed for safety.

Will post findings when it gets back

Funny, but I’ve had my B2910 with a backhoe for about 22 years now. The backhoe is not on all the time. But I was using it a few days ago and looked and saw this pin that I never use. I realized it’s the swing lock pin!

I use the boom lock all the time because the boom will drift down relatively quickly. But it’s been so long since I might’ve used the swing lock that I forgot it was even there. So my guess is you will be fine not using the swing lock unless you really feel the need to, for whatever reason.

I'm thinking that since I'll never need the swing lock, by stuffing a cork in it will prevent me from absent-mindedly putting the lock pin in it instead of the boom lock. I already did this once and the boom fell over time.

My Ford 3400 TLB had NO locks!
I have NEVER found the need to use either of the locks on my Kubota L48 TLB!
