Maybe before you start shooting me down you should actually take a look at the L2501 manual. I was following the manufacture's instructions.
I come here asking some advice in hopes of helping some others that may have the same issues. Not to be made a fool of. I'm done on this topic
Stomper - I'll chime in here, if you don't mind, and please keep an open mind.

I've been participating in OTT since I got my little BX almost 5 years ago.

There are NO hotter topics here than that 50 hour service, and what kind of juices you dose your tractor with, whether hydraulic fluid or engine oil, and filters...oh gosh, the filters.....

In my 5 years here, you seldom see anyone shooting anyone down. We're too good a bunch for that, and we have better things to do than bickering. Bickering is much more common on some other forums I hear, because except for OTT and MapleTrader.com, I have little experience.

Several years ago, 50 hour service dictated a complete dump/change of engine oil and hydraulic fluid with filters in many Kubota models. My BX2360, if memory serves, was one of the "new" ones that eliminated the hyro fluid change in favor of just the filter.

That change bugged me....so I changed everything, including dumping the front axle at 38 hours. (Was also getting toward winter)

I found a bunch of metal shavings in a HST screen BX tractors have, and the filter didn't look so hot either. The front axle fluid looked like it had condensation in it. Did I feel stupid? Nope, glad I did it.

Bulldog is one of the most straight-up guys on this forum. He's not one for conjecture, or put anyone down. I hold his opinions in the highest regard. Good guy....no, real good guy we're fortunate to have here with experience with large Kubota tractors.

He sticks to his conviction that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. He has done so consistently for my entire time here, in much the same scenario as this thread. I wouldn't take his comment as directed at YOU, but directed at the principle of maintaining machines we all spent a lot of $$ to get in the first place. Why skimp after the purchase?

I'm not advocating for/against whether you change your fluid. Frankly, I could care less. Your tractor - do as you please.

I guess the basic point is use good stuff for preventive maintenance, use it well and often, and keep your stuff in good working order. I believe, no I know, Bulldog is in the same camp.

Everyone here have seen guys bitch about the cost of SUDT2, wanting to use the $40-5 gallon pail from TSC on their new HST Kubota. They figure they can save $200 in their $30,000 tractor.

Same applies to the $11 filter I can get for $7 if I buy Fram.

Short story long, this type of thread shows up frequently. Don't take it personally, there a probably 1,000 more like it here.

Should you feel stupid?? Absolutely not...it was recommended just a few years ago! You came here to learn for yourself and help others.

I hope you continue to do so!

Best wishes!

All that have helped with constructive criticizm and just not criticizm, thank you for your help
Stomper, maybe you should read some of the other post. What I said wasn't directed at you at all unless you go by a different name on here.

I'll never make fun of anyone who's asking for help or advise. You may not like the advise I give but that's fine too. Damn sure would never try to discourage you or anyone else for trying to take care of their own machine. If what I said did that I'm sorry because it wasn't meant for you.

Bottom line is this: It's none of my business if you change oil or not. It's your tractor. But when it's said to be a "waste" to change oil just doesn't set well with me. Maintenance is never a waste.

Bulldog, I took your advice and went back and read through this thread from the start, I see what you are talking about now, and I apologize for jumping on your comment. It seems I misinterpreted what you said. I will take extra time and care to understand posts more clearly in the future before commenting.
It has been one of those days today.

It 's threads like this that I love about this site. When I had the 50 hrs done (had a dealer rep do it as this is my first tractor and I wanted to learn). When HST fluid came up I said change it (not sure why - I think I read it was recommended somewhere:rolleyes:). I found out the hard way how much fluid it takes and thought afterward maybe it wasn't really such a bright idea. I did feel a little stupid when I later saw it was not part of the "scheduled maintenance".

Now, I have joined the camp that defaults to a little too much maintenance is preferable to too little. In the scheme of things it's cheap insurance.
